Default I just installed Megan Racing long tubes!

Yesterday I got my set of megan racing long tube headers I bought from ebay. They cost about $350 shipped to PR and they arrived pretty quick. My car is Supercharged ( Vortech ) and only the intake pipe going to the throttle had to be removed.

This is the second set of headers I install in a G35. The first set was a shorty header I got from ebay that was a copy of the nismo headers and now these.

1) These are considerably easier to install as odd as that may sound. No need to remove the steering wheel linkage since they are skinnier in that area than the "nismo" styles were.

2) I've read a few install write ups and they all ask to remove the coolant pipe on the passenger side, and some say the Ac compressor and alternator....I never did any of that so it's really not necessary.

3) Pipe material seems better than the shorty headers I had....they look very solid and even sound solid. Guess we'll see...

4) I hope to never do this again...lol....my hands hurt!

Anyways....I'm going to the dyno soon but I'm also going to install my 2.87" pulley so I won't have a comparo of before and after.

Here are some pics!

Those are some serious headers. Good choice. Were you able to support them properly?

Thanks. They use the factory brace.

No soundclips, but they kinda sound the same imo.

wow, i applaud you for getting them on without taking the cooling pipes off. How in the heck did you get all those bolts? i tried for like 2 hours before just taking the coolant pipes off.

A picture of my hands will explain a lot...LOLL...they are all screwed up.

I had to choose, draining the coolant, taking the pipe off and refilling with no air bubbles ( a hassle ) vs. simply using a ton of tools ranging from wrenches, ratchets, lots of U-joints and extensions and even a pneumatic wrench. I chose to keep the coolant inside.

good point, i went the route to make sure that every bolt was properly torqued with a torque wrench so i never have a header leak. Those are a pain in the *** and you have to do your work twice!

why would it sound different?

headers+ testpipes = long tube headers.

so the physical aspect of his system never changed. They might be better tuned but you have to pass those gases through the same exhaust (since that didn't change) therefore it would most likely sound the same as before.

^but the collection point has and the pulses from the exhaust would be leaving at a different time making the car perhaps sound different.

I dint know that is old setup (stock headers tps) had the EXACT diameter of the LTs. Hence why I would think it wouldv sounded diff.

They are different but you have to imagine that the sound difference has to be different enough to be noticable through whatever exhaust he has in the rear.

i didn't notice a single difference going from stock headers/cats with borla to my aftermarket headers/test pipes with borla. Sounded the same to me.

I have a Vortech w/ 3.12" pulley, 600cc injectors, walbro, Osiris, Skunk2 Spacer, Megan Longtubes, Ebay "nismo style" 3" exhaust, and that's about it.

I dynoed 349whp without the exhaust components ( just test pipes ) but have yet to redyno ( I dynoed 240whp before the S/C and I'm 5AT ). I'm going to install the 2.87 and some cooling fans for the intercooler ( I have a G35 and 90% of the intercooler is blocked by the bumper ) and redyno.
Hopefully 400whp is in my future.
