Default Header Installation Cost?

Last week i got a set of DC ceramic headers and just got them in a few days ago. So today i went around to many of the local shops and asked for a price quote and they ranged from $500-$700. I knew that the installation cost would be expensive but didn't realize it would be that expensive. So before I have anyone install them I was wanting to get opinions on the expense. Not whether I should put them on or not but if the price estimates that i received are correct or whether i should keep looking for other shops with lower prices. And yes i understand that you get what you pay for, so if these prices are normal i'll have a local shop install them later next week. Thanks.

I paid $200 about 4 years ago. Find a shop with experience installing 350Z headers. An experienced mechanic knows what must be removed, and can cut installation time to a couple of hours. Saving time saves money.

NOTE: Return after a 1,000 miles and tighten the bolts.

i did this install twice.. 400 would be a fair price for a shop.. you could find it cheaper elsewhere.. If you were near NC I could do it for less.

I think the average Joe is gonna take about 5 hours on it (I think that is the amount of labor listed for the job as well) and at $100 an hour in shop labor - $500 is the number. Guys that have done it and understand the car may be able to get you in and out in about 4 hours, but still a lot of work and money. Man, it took me 20 - 30 minutes with the engine on the stand, I can only imagine doing it in car...

In some past posts, headers were listed as a waste of $$ and time to install for the neglible gain. What kind of performance increase are you expecting, and what other mods have you already done or are planning to do?

I'd like 10hp out of the headers. Right now performance wise on the car i have an AEM cold air intake and flowmaster exhaust. Other than that all my mods are just for looks.

Thanks everyone for the advise. I have already been to 12 shops and the listings were still between $500-$700. I'm going to a car show tonight so I'll ask around and see of reputable shops in the area to install these headers.

Good luck scoutin around. I know how tough the install is but 500-700 is way too much imo.

I could not believe when the first shop said the installation would cost $600. My mouth gaped open and I said you know what I'm going to look around before I pay $600 for you to do it.

To be honest, I don't think you'll see those output figures from the headers alone. The headers will help other parts work more efficently so to see the full effect you'll probably need a bigger investment.

Kinda hard to answer, but with all the bolt-ons (intake & exhaust, cats/test pipes, spacer/manifold) cams, headers, and a tune I would expect to see about 280'ish at the wheels on a moderately setup DynoJet.

But if I had to give a number for the headers alone I'd say 5-8 at the wheels. Most of which under the curve (meaning not added to the peak figure) and maybe 2-3 on the peak figure.
