Default Video: Motordyne TDX, ART Pipes, Stillen Headers...

In case anyone is interested in getting some idea of what a full bolt-on setup with the Motordyne TDX, ART Pipes, and headers sounds like, here you go. I'm about ready to head out to Afghanistan, so I figured I'd make one last video before putting the car into storage. And while I really just make these things for myself, it doesn't do me as much good as it does someone else out there who might be considering making the same modifications.

The only downside is that the sound this car makes now just goes well beyond the capacity of the microphone on my camera. So what sounds in-person like a deeper, louder version of the Shockwave/TDX sounds at times in the video to be a little hollow and almost raspy up top. Let me be clear: there is actually ZERO rasp coming from this setup. It's still exotic sounding... just a very loud and angry kind of exotic. The camera's little microphone apparently just can't handle so much volume and bass. Bottom line is that I'll just need a better microphone for next time around. In the meantime, I'm sorry.

NOTE:
- The car still needs a new tune, but the power gains from the Stillen headers feel significant (I've personally dyno'd them to add 11whp with my old Stillen exhaust. That whole story and the dyno charts are in a previous thread I made.)

- List of mods is in the video as well as in my signature below, but I'll put them here because I know someone will ask...

2006 Nissan 350Z (6MT - VQ35DE RevUp)
o K&N Drop-in Filter
o Motordyne 5/16" Spacer
o Motordyne MREV2
o Stillen Headers
o Motordyne ART Pipes
o Motordyne TDX V2 Exhaust
o Uprev Tuned
o Tein S-Tech Springs
o Eibach 20mm Spacers

At any rate, I hope you guys like the video.

All the best,
Naga

I will have the exact same setup as you as soon as I get my TDX 2 (hurry it up Tony ) and I install my spacer/lower plenum. After all of that money spent on NA, do you think it was worth it?

Thanks a lot, guys. I'll do my best to make it back safely.

@ TheSyn3rgist
Yeah, I think it was worth it. Wish I could have just made all the right decisions along the way, though, instead of the mixed bag of trial and error at certain points. But by the same token, it helped me to learn way more about this car than I ever thought I would. All of these NA breathing mods will also make my eventual Vortech setup that much better, too

So I came back to the States for a couple of weeks and managed to get a little more video of my car. It's nothing fancy - just a compilation of clips. Thankfully, I think the sound quality is moderately better in this one (probably due to the fact that it was more of an open environment). Either way, I figured I'd throw this up in case anyone was interested.

I think it still sounds phenomenal in person - a smooth, deep roar - even if it doesn't properly translate in the video. Once I get back for good I'll buy myself something fancy to better capture everything and do justice to the eventual Vortech build.

I am looking at getting some stillen headers and maybe some cams, but I have the ART pipes and shockwave (with tune, made some damn good power) and it sounds mean. I'm hoping soon I can get a high quality microphone and do some pulls for audio recording.

Default Christmas Present

So my family is a very understanding one, and they know how much I love my car. They decided to go out and get some high quality audio recording equipment and make a quick video of my car. So when I checked my email this morning, this is what I got:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TN-UX...feature=colike

(the blue stuff on the back of my car, I'm assuming, is tape for the microphone and what not...)

Anyhow, that made my day. I don't get back from Afghanistan until Spring, but things like this sure do help tide me over .

Tried to send you PM to your reply to mine a while back, but box is full.

Here is my reply:

Thanks..

Saw your recent video...NICE!!

Well, I already had Invidia CB on and, being an Ol' Fart that I am, noise level can be an issue for me and I live in an Apt complex as well. So I decided to go with resonated FI HFCs instead. Glad I did, because these HFCs really woke up my Gemini just enough for me. Bold sound when on the throttle, nice and tame when cruising or driving in the underground parking.
Anyway..thanks for taking time to give me feedback...enjoy your set up!

Thanks! I hear you on the noise level.

If you ever end up getting second thoughts, or if your HFCs give out on you (as my Stillens eventually did), the ART Pipes aren't much of a step up in the volume department - if at all. So the Apt

My car... as evidenced by any of the above videos, is quite loud now. However, that's all thanks to my headers. Either way, it sounds like you've probably found that sweet spot for your exhaust note, so I hope you keep on loving it.
