Default Are Headers worth it?

So i got a 04 Z with intake, plenum spacer, test pipes, and exhaust. Just wondering how much is it worth to actually get headers? Car is plenty fast with these bolt ons and if the increase with the headers isn't much at all then i probably wont even bother.

THANKS!

I pretty much got into all of it in that thread. There is a plethora of opinions out there regarding the value of headers in our cars. The bottom line, however, is that if you have the money and willingness to get past the price of installation (or are willing to put yourself through the headache of installing them yourself), then they will probably yield significant gains at the top end. You can expect them, especially with a tune, to shift your power/torque to the top end while sacrificing a bit down low... that's just what you get with more free-flowing exhausts. So is it worth it? Well, depends on what you want to get and what you're willing to give.

All the information you're looking for should be right there. If not, I highly recommend a search before going further, as there have been many threads along these lines all over these forums.

yea ive installed headers on cramped v6's many times now. so i know how much it sucks to install. Im just still learning about the z so i thought i would ask. Usually most cars these days have "pre-cats" in the stock manifolds and from wat i saw the z didnt have pre-cats. That was the only reason i would think they were not worth it. But thanks for the link. My question is answered! haha

NO...headers not worth the time, effort&expense for the results gained.
Furthermore,IF you go with headers, make sure you don't go cheap.Buy a brand that is known for a correct fitment.

There are only two power mods for the Z that are worthwhile IMO... F/I and LS Swap. Everything else just makes your butt hurt when the same cars that whoop your *** now continue to do so after spending time, effort and money to be not much faster then you are right now.

I have long tubes and while I only paid for the headers and had a buddy help with the work, then got uprev tuned, much more power on the low end, deep sound. I like it.

Would I do all over again? I probably would not buy the Z.

haha

Dont listen to any of these douche bags, listen to people with them on their cars....
as a matter if their worth it??
well that depends what your goal on gains are.
Header,... you will loose HP, especially in the top end, but...
You will gain torque that WILL be felt in 1st/2nd/3rd gears. so it really depends on what your looking to gain. Since top end HP isnt really too big of a deal to me, its more about what I'll feel on the street in day to day driving thats under onder 75mph. Headers will change the sound of your car too. But after all is said and done, if you do headers, make sure a good reflash is in the future plans to really reap your benefits. hope this helps OP.

Not sure if the douche bags thing was a joke or not. As an official lurker/not many comments member here, I can tell you those 3 opinions are from some of the most experienced members on this site. Name it and I'm sure one of them has had it ESPECIALLY when it comes to FI and motor swaps, CASS is all over that.

to you sir I say

LoL... oh, did I upset you, LoL
its the honest truth, Cass or not. If OP going to go FI or do a motor swap, then so be it, thats a great upgrade. it all falls on what OP's goals and gains are. I have headers on my VQ and I'm telling him what to expect from headers, whould I do that upgrade again, honest, I'm 50/50, I can only say what I got out of the upgrade without doing aside from the topic of doing an expensive FI or motorswap.
In all hoesty IMownO,... its kinda dumb to spend that much money on FI/motorswap, just buy a bigger/faster car with a better platform.

I got headers installed. I did not notice a difference in power, but I did notice higher temps under the hood Like many have said, not really worth it; if you want bragging rights about having every bolt on, go for it.

A good set of headers or worth it if your doing the work yourself, but if your paying something $600+ in labor , not worth it.

If your car is just a normal DD, probably not worth it.

dont remember numbers off the top of my head, something in the low 290's prior to the header install in Maryland on a superflow. dont remember torque numbers, but it wasn't till I was reflashed by Dave@function'd(I think Mustang Dyno). But after talking about it for a while with him, he explained to me then that it was normal for HP to go down. The real reap of benefits on that upgrade is felt with a reflash with better torque numbers.
At least speaking in an N/A VQ sense. Wish I would have saved those numbers.

This too, I had a small engine fire when one of the wire harness near the new headers, nothing too damaging, just wrapped the harness. didnt know if it was the manifolds or just a fluke, but its never happened since, and I daily drive all seasons

Word. You should put headers on it and use them as an excuse to get a Vortech or ST.
