Default Exhaust help

Ok sorry in advance for anything being wrong with this thread because im new to this forum.... Alright so I definitely want to get a louder sound out of my 08 350z but I don't have the money for the whole exhaust system i want yet. I do have a dual intake that sounds pretty mean.. I just want a louder exhaust. With that said I was thinking about just unbolting the mufflers and putting a few washers to space the gap to get a louder sound. I know it sounds a little raspy or ricey but for now i just want a louder sound without straight piping it. Is this a good idea or does anyone have experience doing this? I am open to any other suggestions.

Awful idea, it's just going to sound like **** and cause a loss of performance. Keep it how it is and save for an exhaust.

Save up, you don't want to rush into something then regret it later.

Wait, are you trying to remove the muffler entirely and replace it with washers?

How is that even possible?

I'm pretty sure he means to separate the piping and the muffler using washers causing an exhaust leak to make more sound.

Welcome. The exhaust system is functioning properly, and you want to introduce a leak? Think about it.

I have hard of people putting small washers between their cats and Y-pipe to create a gap for more exhaust sound. The problem is you would have to fix it for inspection and you would have to remove the gasket completely in order to make that gap to begin with. The gaskets between the pipes are malleable enough (in order to prevent exhaust leaks in the first place) that they can still provide a good seal even with a washer added. You'd need to put like 3 on each bolt. I don't think it's worth the hassle and it may not even make the sound you are looking for.

were talking about sooo many differnet things here..

Yes them thar keeds these days place washers in BETWEEN the gaskets to create exhaust leaks, so the cops think they still have a muffler on visibly and its only slightly more farty sounding.

HORRIBLE idea, save it for your lawnmower or golf cart or civic.

Then we have electric cut out exhaust flanges,

great if you ahve a Vette w a V8 or a turbo FI car that needs major flow to spin a turbo.. and is ABSOLUTLEY horrendous to put on a NA VQ car that direly needs it backpressure to have any sort of torque.. and are extremely loud too btw and not cheap.

OP.. dude..

DOOD.. buy some test pipes for a frikn 100 bucks and leave your stock exhaust alone.

WHY, WHy WHY reinvent the wheel?

Test pipes, stock exhaust , its all over you tube. Its 100 bucks man. Cmon.. ur better than this ( i hope)/

Test pipes are a great option except im not trying to fail emissions by not having cats.

I ran test pipes for a few years before my current setup, and never failed emissions... but I never had the visual inspection done.

how will my car pass w a built engine and FI?

Check your state, if they use OBDII plug n scan only, youre safe.

As will I.

Get your emissions test done, install test pipes, and revert back later.

Or just save your money and buy a catback and HFC.
