Default Double resonated Y-pipe

Hello everyone and greetings from Portugal.

Please excuse some errors on my writing, since English it’s not my native tongue.

Although this is my first post on my350z, I have been lurking around here for 2 years

This forum has been a great help with my Z, especially since in Portugal this car is extremely rare. So I’ll try to contribute a little with my (small) experiences.

After modding my intake (injen long tube) and remap by uprev, I’ve decided to upgrade my exhaust.

After reading the million threads about different combos, and having to resist the urge to buy the more proven exhaust (basically here the price of exhaust is the double in the USA…, (purchase + shipping + 30% on top of the total in custom taxes), I’ve gone for a custom exhaust, and since I've never seen this configuration i though sharing with you.

I’m trying to get a silent system without drone or rasp that allows for long trips.

This is the first part of the job

Decat Y-pipe with two resonators.
2.5’’ to 3.’’

Currently im still maintaining the stock mipipe and muffler.

After driving for a while, I got really fed up it the resonance/rattling in the 2000-3000 rpm range, which I assumed is caused by the increase flow in the stock Y-back and the turbulence in the transition of the Y-pipe to the mid pipe

Solution: a reducer from 3’’ to 2,5’’

Note: afterwards a gasket was installed

The problem is still there but much better – now I only have the resonance in the 2500-3000 rpm.

Otherwise no drone, the volume of the exhaust is pretty much equal to the stock~.

Excellent work.
My compliments.
Yes,when you are creating a custom system, you never know what harmonics
you will get.It appears that you want to keep yout system pretty quiet-close to OEM??
If not, would be good to eliminate the rear mufflers and run pipes straight back.
If the results are too loud, you could use resonated tips.I ran a set up like this on a
E-Type Jaguar. It was by far the best sounding exhaust I've had on any car I've owned.
Almost had a Formula 1 "snarl".

Thanks everyone. I will try to make a short video. But the sound is very similar to the stock setup. Perhaps a little bit more "raspy" and when u rev the car and take off the foot of the gas u do listen a hiss (i only noticed this with the car stopped and with the door opened), but it is still a work in progress. Im trying to get my hands on a used fujitsubo (y-back) from the U.K. if the business doesn't go my way i will probably go for a custom job that copies the design.

JCITY ---> Yes Im going for a "OEM" quiet-like system, I don't like loud exhausts, basically im looking for a good performance/sound/price option.

I hope i get everything right, because i only have youtube to guide my steps in the sound department. LOL

Sounds good. It does retain a lot of the stock sound. Probably the first time I've heard the stock muffler with test pipes and no rasp

Time to a little update.

I've recently installed the Y-Back

3'' midpipe with resonator and new muffler (kinda OEM style)

My camera was repairing, so unfortunately i don't have photos of the fabrication and the assembly.

This is the final product, some warm revs:

I was aiming for a free flow exhaust as silent as possible.
Currently it is as loud as the stock exhaust with test pipes. It gurgles at lot more. No drone at constant speed (a big bonus), and a nice and deep tone.

The only thing that i think it could be better is the resonance at 2500-3000 rpm that i thought it was coming from the transition from the Y-pipe to the stock exhaust. My best guess is that this is byproduct of the removal of the cats and probably being generated from the Y-pipe, do you think that adding heat wrap to this section would diminish this?

The butt dyno approves, the car seems more responsive overall
