Default Would removing exhaust from test pipes back cause problems?

Hi All,

I was wondering if there would be any problems if I removed my exhaust from test pipes back for a few passes down a drag strip? I have started it up with no exhaust on before and want to know what it would sound like with it removed and under load

Someone told me today that it would cause problems because there would be no back pressure. As far a HP gains or losses I imagine I'll lose a small bit but it'd be pretty negligible.

Sorry if this has been asked before but a search just gave me a bunch of stuff about how to remove exhaust.

Loud for one...
If you think removing exhaust components will give you more power, think again.
Whats the other part of the recipe?Engine...?

I know it will be loud, and I am expecting ZERO gains from it. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by your last sentence. Would you mind asking a bit differently so I get it?

Thumbs down Well

Other then having your valves cool rapidly and having zero back pressure you should be fine.

Same thing as a cutout which is very loud. The vibrations though could rattle stuff loose and that could cause problems. I don't see this happening in a couple passes tho

You'll lose a lot of low end torque and get a headache. I ran like that for a few days before. It was brutal.

lol, yeah at that point, you'll lose torque, back pressure isn't something that's used/makes a difference, it's scavaging that's needed.

If you fit a Y pipe and use a trumpet/cone attachment, you'll actually make gains, this is specifically with the MD XYZ pipe though.

Brutal is to describe the headache or the loudness of the Z?

I actually run that Y pipe, from what I remember it was a pain to get on but it might be worth it if I don't lose power.

For me, "completely awesome" doesn't mean obnoxious and annoyingly loud. When it comes to exhaust, volume is only a small part of it.

Do what you want, but it sounds like ish, imho.

Have a shop make you an exhaust, not running an exhaust is going to sound terrible

I don't know which was more annoying....the exhaust or the stupid laugh and "woo" at around the 14 second mark.
