Default Crawford Plenum Version 5 and R&D pics

I took my plenum off to test the newest creation. The piece is unfinished and does have grind marks (please don’t get discouraged by the looks). This is made with a thicker sheet of aluminum and would hopefully decrease the woo woo noise and eliminate the flex from not using any center bolts. For those of you who have the current plenum you know the center bolt cuts the noise and eliminates the flex. (The next release I think will have recessed bolt holes and integrated spacers much like the stock unit.)

Well it does flex less for sure, however it still woo's like no ones business. Some people really like the WOO, others HATE the WOO. I myself am indifferent to the WOO, but given the choice I would prefer less WOO. Now that we have discussed the WOO, on to the non WOO stuff. (I just like using the word WOO and was seeing how many times I could put WOO in my post!)

The stock strut bar will not fit, I don’t think we will ever make a unit that can work as effectively within the confines of the stock setup. To emphasize this I am including some pictures that have cutouts with a mocked up stock setting.

For your viewing pleasure and enjoyment:

And one final WOO WOO! (Yeah that was 2 but who's really counting.)

Most likely because of the far larger cavity the air has to flow in.

Also the aluminum used will not contain noise nearly as well as the oem cast.

Yea I'm on the list for one of those. The only thing ever holding me back from getting the Crawford piece was how ugly it was (no offense intended, doug or vandy, but the first ones closely resembled ****). Now it looks sweet and i'm on board to get one.

I give you all the respect in the world. I guess I'm not as hardcore as I thought. I wanted to wait till the awesome performance gain was packaged in a slightly better looking plenum. I couldn't give up my polished plenum.

I'll go sit in the corner now.

so whats the story, the new plenum will provide better gains than the old one? I couldn't care less what the plenum looks like, thats what the hood is there for.

The sound has something to do with the .5 harmonic...basically what others said about the intake collector being larger is essentially true.

Nissan designed the stoock plenum for the air to have equal distance to travel in the plenum to each cylinder. Im guessing that by increasing the front of the plenum, it allows the air to collect more in the front, and therefore arives slightly later. Not to mention, the front two cylinders are getting much more air.

No noticeable changes in gains over the original Crawford plenum. There may be an extra pony in there because of the smoothness of the inside, but nothing note worthy.

There are still different trials going on to make a more aesthetically pleasing piece while also keeping production time reasonable. Right now there this piece still requires more production time because of the double welds and extra grinding. Hopefully Doug will come up with something that eases his production and remains at a profit level that makes it worthwhile. I don’t think it is at this point.

Still, even if you keep this as a special order option, it might be beneficial. I'm not really sure how much more time it takes to make, but I'm sure some people (read: me) are willing to pay a premium.

so this will be a more expensive plenum? will you be offering different plenums or are you phasing out the "old versions" and just selling this new one?

The same good old plenum will be offered until a new version can be made in a comparable time frame with minimal price increase. If this can not be done, I would assume that it will be as 350Zdanny suggested, special order for anything other than the current version.

My original post was to get a feeler of what would sell. These are all good posts and questions!
