Muffler delete fail.
My friend and I wanted to hear what all this muffler deleteness was about. I went to the store for some beer and my friend took it upon himself to detach my muffler. Apparently the bolts and heads had some rust on it, I tried to salvage it but broke one bolt and bent the other.
My question is can these bolts on the muffler side be knocked out and replaced? If not I suppose I can just take to a shop and have it welded until I decide to purchase an exhaust system.. I really dont like the way it sounds now.

It is probably more annoying because it is resonating like crazy under the car... It would probably sound better if there was a pipe exiting the rear of the car
I can't remember what a stock exhaust looks like, I am sure someone can help though

Probably... maybe i have a pipe made
I haven't heard anything about a "muffler delete" in the year of being here.
Yet another reason I'm selling my Z after I get it paid off, too many noobs and kids doing this crap to them, poor cars

Good luck.
They are welded in in at LEAST 4 spots, and there's not really a way to hold the muffler that allows for good hits(the exhaust flange gets in the way). I tried to knock them out to use them on a friend's midpipe, and It wasn't happening. I even tried to cut them out, and unless you have a good arsenal of tools, and lots of patience-don't try.
I would suggest having a pipe that utilizes the stock tip(s) welded in and see how that sounds. Should only be $50-100 max.

Now obviously a new exhaust is the ideal route to go with, but I understand cutting some corners..... Just don't let it be a common theme on your Z. Please.
I figured it wouldnt sound great but that's the fun of experimenting. I thought of welding a pipe with a resonator in place of the muffler but I'm not convinced a single cheap resonator would help the sound that much but it would get out from under my seat.
Instead of a muffler delete, which I find stoopid, has anyone tried drilling a couple of small holes right before the muffler to tune the sound of the exhaust?
That'd be a helluva lot easier to fix as well.

Not sure the reasoning. Why base car ownership on others? I love my car, I couldn't care less what others do to theirs.
As far as the muffler delete issue, I'm not familiar with the stock exhaust bolt pattern as mine was replaced at a professional shop. How severe was the rust issue? Is it just the exhaust clamp and bolt, or is the undercarriage bracket rusted as well? Best of luck in getting your issue resolved.
Just an FYI to everyone, yes, the studs can be knocked out of the flange rather easily with a hammer. When I removed the muffler to polish my tips, I broke a stud off. I knocked them out with a hammer, and replaced with stainless bolts, and never had an issue after that.
I made a turndown to bolt up in place of the rear muffler section for track duty, sounded ok with the stock cats on but with test pipes was just unbearably loud.
Glad you got the bolt issue straightened. Put some anti-seize on them so they don't rust in the future.
