Default Value of CAI, plenum + exhaust

Hi guys,

I took my car to get detailed yesterday, and next door is a shop where the owner showed me his modded 350z and 370z on the cover of some magazines, really excited to see a Z in good condition.

He offered to install a megan racing drift spec exhaust, k & r CAI, and tune for $1115.99.

I've got a DE engine, from what I've gathered reading here, the CAI is worthless for an HR, is that also true for the DE? Would a plenum spacer do more than the CAI?

Assuming the CAI is worthless, should I ask for a quote for exhaust only or would you get exhaust + plenum spacer?

megan is crap

the tune alone is about $700 normal price, but not needed for anything you are doing. i would get the invidia gemini for about $900 and install it yourself

Thanks for the reply, at what point with bolt-ons does a tune start to have value? He said it would make the car a lot more responsive, since it's an auto.

I see "intake, spacer, exhaust" as things to upgrade but intake seems useless, would you tune after spacer and exhaust?

Yeah I dunno, it's just what he was suggesting, single exhaust, he said he would do the tune for $100 because he loves Z's. Hard to figure out where personality and excitement end and personal marketing begin, but he did have pics of his Z's on magazine covers with giant wings on them.

The uprev license is more than 100. Dunno if I would trust this guy, but your money.

Interesting. He was talking about tuning the transmission at some point to be snappier, maybe he meant a transmission computer tune, which is separate from uprev? He was a little vague...

Anyway, I'm not considering doing this any time soon, just trying to learn. I'm in the middle of an audio build, gotta finish that before I start dropping money elsewhere. Thanks!
