I'm currently running the KINETIX V2 Plenum and a K&N Drop-in filter. From what I've read and been told, the OEM Airbox is VERY well designed and you "might" get another 1 or 2 hp by going to CAI or popcharger and personally a couple extra horses doesn't justify the price. Stick with the Stock airbox and just throw in a K&N and you'll be fine.

I've seen a few cases for stock airboxes, and looking at the stock airbox it does indeed look like a nice design with a straight tract.
But the question is, why are so many CAI intakes for sale and have dynos with 5+ HP (over the nice stock intake) to back up their claims?
Why wouldn't the same benefits of a CAI (i.e. conical filter for more intake surface area, lower placement for colder air) also be synergistic with an aftermarket plenum?
Now, if the difference were truly only 2-3 HP (CAI vs. a stock airbox with K&N filer), then there's no way to justify the cost.
Somebody set me straight with some facts and dynos!

Never really believed in intake gains until I did some comparisons myself of stock vs. modified intake equipped Z's air fuel ratios.
Z's with oem intakes run slightly richer at 5000+ rpms than ones equipped with the Injen, JWT, or Typhoon. I don't remember exactly but stock seemed to drop to 13.2 while the modified intake would bring the whole line (past 5000) it up a few notches to like a max of 13.5
All this proved is that they accomplished to lean out the top end and performed better than the oem intake. How much gain is difficult to calculate given the small increment and variables of a dyno.
So, no, it's not going to win you a race or feel faster. But it definitely sounds good and makes hp.

Thanks in advance.
