Default JWT Pop Charger (Check Engine Light) GRRR

Well this figures, my first MOD and now this happens. What is the fix to this? Some folks say take it to the auto zone and they will reset it. Others say take it off, put the OEM air box back on and go back to the dealer.

1. Is this dangerous just to get someone to reset it? I mean the CEL went off for a reason didn't it. Antone else with a popcharger have this problem? When you had it reset, did it come back on?

2. If I take it back to the dealer and then they reset it, whats the point in putting the pop charger back in. Won't the light come back on?

BTW, installed the pop charger a few months ago, and have put about 350 miles. My first road trip over 100 miles and on the way back home, the dam CEL comes on. I have 2600 miles on my car.
Also I heard there is TSP for this, but I heard its for the loose gas cap (leakage, ect)?

Will the dealer do an ECU re-flash to correct the problem?

Thanks for any advice folks? Anyone wanna buy a Pop charger, sigh!

Just out of curiosity, how come you are so certain the pop charger is causing the CEL? You said it was on for a few months with no trouble ....right? Maybe something else is causing the CEL.

Go here and print out the ECU reset procedure.........Maybe that will take care of it.

Good Luck!

Well this is my first trip with the pop charger. I am not sure what the problem is either? Hopefully the dealer will know.

Guess I will take it to the dealer and have them look at it. I just hate uninstalling things.

This is really aggravating. I am not sure if it is the pop charger or not. Hell, I have no idea come to think of it. LOL! Makes me want to sell the damn car!

Also I tried doing the ECU reset and it didnt work. It says the CEL will flash, mine does not flash, so I guess I am doing something wrong!

Timing is CRITICAL when reseting the ECU using that procedure. Try disconnecting the negative terminal from the battery for at least 15 hours.

You getting rid of your Z because the CEL came on after a mod? Holy crap...probably a good idea then if that's your mentality, you'd be very unhappy with the Z.

On the CEL note....my CEL also came on after I installed my new intake....it was because I forgot to plug the MAFS back in before I started it, but once I did that, it was on for good. My service shop is cool so I just cruised by there one day, had it confirmed that it was the change in the intake, had them reset it and bam, everything was back to good. CEL stayed off, car runs and sounds great so all is good. Took about 30 seconds out of my day.

Resetting the ECU to fix this problem has worked for some, and not for others. I was one of the people it didn't work for, however, when they say timing is critical, it isn't used loosely. Get a stop watch, or a watch with a seonds display because when it says 10 seconds, it means 10 full seconds exactly.

Well I went to Auto Zone and they said it was Code, P0456, Emission Control System Leak (very small).

Could this be my exhaust or pop charger?

Also should I put the OEM airrbox before I go to the dealer on Monday?

Thanks for any suggestions, I am going outside to try the reset the CEL again.

Also on another note, my exhaust has been smelling like rotten eggs (almost smells like radiator fluid) for the last 1500 miles. It hasn't gone away. It smells really bad when it is first started!

They said to disconnect negative battery, re-install OEM airbox, drive 40-50 separate times and the light should reset. The rate I drive that would take a year. WTF?

I doubt my dealer will do that. I am afraid to even ask them I have an aftermarket Mod. Knowing my luck, they will reset it, but charge me.

Emission Control sounds like an exhaust problem, especially when compounded by the smell. My first guess is a problem with the Cats. I doubt the problem is with your Popcharger. I'd reinstall the stock airbox just to rule that out. And, I'd go to a Nissan dealership. What's up with going to Autozone or an Acura dealership? You need to go to Nissan for this problem.

Oh, and, I'd also suggest you develop a relationship with your service guys, they're crucial to taking care of your car, mods or no mods.

Good luck.

Thanks for the input. Auto Zone used a meter that plugged into something near drivers rest pedal. They are the ones that gave me that code.

As far as Acura, I was going there to look at a TL and TSX.

I will put the stock airbox and let yall know what the dealer says.

Yeah I know, epsecially frustrating when I get home after all of this and find I have a 7" crack in my front windshield.

Looked at a Acura TL with a A-Spec effects package, they were selling it for, $42500, No engine mods, just a body kits and wheels.

I dont know what you guys are doing with these pop-chargers, but I did not reset my ecu, or disconnect the battery before or after install and I have no problems. My car does not stall, even if I push the clutch in at high rpm's, and my idle is fine. Maybe you guys are being to rough with your MAF sensors while doing the install.....maybe you are getting that CEL because you opened the gas cap with the car running or you didnt tighten it properly?

Sorry dude... you are the biggest wimp ever. How can you even contemplate selling your car just becuase of a CEL after installing a popcharger! And based on the CEL code, the popcharger had nothing to do with your CEL. Just get it fixed under warranty at the dealer. And dont worry about the popcharger. They are smog/street legal, and most dealers wont give a crap if you have one....unless they are really ****...then I would find another dealer.

Man..this is laughable.

Some people are just never meant to be modders, it is inborn...

You CEL problem takes 25 seconds to fix if you REALLY listen and TRY to do it right and reset the ECU.

Biggest WIMP ever huh? Nice words. Appreciate that. Just because the light went on, wasn't the only reason I was selling the Z. I have been thinking about this for a few months.

Plus the fact that my windshield was cracked 7" the same day, (Dam snow plows, LOL), the insurance WILL NOT cover it, just made my day. Apparently Colorado DOES NOT have separate glass coverage, like I had in Texas ($50-100 deductible)

I was just mad, thinking it was the pop charger, and that I would have to take it off and take it to the dealer.

However, I called my dealer and they said to bring it in tomorrow, and they will see what the problem is. They said if its the pop charger, then I can put the OEM airbox back in, take it back to them and then they will reset it.

Hopefully it is not the pop charger. I will let you know by tomorrow if it is the pop charger, and let you know if I am selling the pop charger or not.

Thanks all for your advice, especially the WIMP one,

Let us know how the trip to Academy Nissan goes. I have guesses already...

The only one I like there is Jeff in parts. I talked to Jerry last weekend in service and he seemed reasonable enough.
