Default need a quickie favor - Crawford cats!!!!

brethern....

i am thinking (again) about exhaust options BEFORE the fuji system i have on the way.....

i had a set of helix tester pipes, and uninstalled them within 12 minutes of their completion (couldnt tolerate the sound levvels between 2-3K mostly)

since i have the crawford plen, andd will get the headers later on, i figure the cats might be nice too....

anyone have the hi-flow creawford cats, and can assure me of their sound?? im told they DONT have the rasp that the testpipes (and some other HF ctas) have.....

i would gladly accept the charges of a phonecall to listen to them revv (reminds me of the cayenne turbo commercial i saw the other day on TV)... or a sound/vid clip??

thanks fellas... i need to get this soon (or not at all) to make it in time for the dyno tuning..

eS,

I have the Crawford Plenum + NISMO Headers + Crawford CATS + JIC Y-Pipe. Let me tell you that even the Crawford will give you that raspy sound between 2-3K upon warming up. However, once warmed up thoroughly, the sound is a more mellow and powerful sounding tone as you accelerate through the RPM. At WOT, there's a brief raspiness between 2-3.5K.

how come you have Raspy? I heard others that install the Crawford Cats don't have any Raspiness at all.

Don't know, but it's definitely there. It's not rubbing anything.

Had kinetix cats.. They were off within a week. I installed the Crawford cats tonight.

They are more quiet then kinetix. Less rasp, but there is very little between 3.5-4k on my car. So VERY short amount of time, and much more mellow then the kinetix cats.

As for power, I DEFFINITLY fell it with the Crawfords, didnt feel much of anything with the Kinetix. Might be because I was concentraiting to hard on that god awefull rasp I was getting.

My car is also raspy until it warms up, but it was like that with just the Nismo exhaust and no HF cats too.

On a side note, most people say they get no rasp with either of those two cats, crawford and kinetix.

I think it depends on what exhaust you have weather its going to be raspy or not. I have the borla exhaust with the RT cats and no raspy sound.

VandyZ is your Y-pipe is a stock Y-pipe?

Does it have any raspy noise on yours?

Because my Fuji Ti and Fuji Y-pipe is coming and so your Crawford Cats
So i hope i won't get any raspiness from this setup.

Thats right . . . stock y-pipe for now. I am waiting on a few things to materialize before making my decision on the y-pipe.

I have an active research and development role with Crawford Z Car as well as very high level understanding of the operations and performance of the 350Z products offered. On the boards I should be considered an advisor or affiliate for Crawford’s. (I don’t take product orders . . .I forward these directly to Doug) To order or enquire about products call Doug (615)327-4159. He owns and runs the shop. He is often too busy to post, so I handle the board relations if you will.

If you want to just shoot the breeze I am usually there by 4:30 in the afternoon.

How do you like the plenum?

EDIT: I changed the number above . . .woops!

Default Crawford Cats Pass Smog??

I'm leaning towards getting the Crawford Cats and Borla Exhaust eventually, and just wondering if the the Crawford cats will pass SMOG and inspection???? Says off-road use only on the website. Whereas Kinetix says they pass Smog.
Pretty important in Cali, especially now that they are cracking down on that in the Bay Area (actually pulling people over and doing inspections!). Thanks

They pass smog. We say off road use because legally you can’t change your cats before 50,000 miles (here in TN) unless they are damaged or defective. It’s a shame my stock cats got busted up when I bottomed out .
