Ceramic are much more reliable and heat stable. Stainless are nice looking if you show the car.

Ceramic will rust over time especially if you live any where where they salt the roads or near salty air from being near salt water oceans...

Stainless steele will not rust.. and are more durable...

We have DC Sports Stainless and Ceramic headers in stock... Price cant be beat with those! PM me for special forum shipped prices...

also Stillen Stainless and NISMO stainless headers!

Being in TO, I'd definintely recommend stainless. There's residue salt well into the spring if you drive your car only in the summer. I drive year round so I've got a set of DC stainless on order (I'll be ceramic coating them as well).

I was thinking couldn't you put some kind of spray on the ceramic headers
so they don't rust . Maybe some clear engine enamel?

its better to just get ss in the first place than fix a ceramic.

Can someone explain to me how ceramic rusts? It isnt possible for ceramic to rust. If they are poorly coated, the steel may rust. Even stainless headers are usually ceramic coated to increase their life, and decrease heat such as like JetHot coatings. If you dont wrap them or coat them, you usually only get a couple years out of them if driven daily, at least this was my experience with my old 302 engines.

the ceramic itself doesn't rust. over time the ceramic coating starts to flake and fall off due to the heat, then the header starts to rust. Once you heat cycle the ceramic coating 300-400 times over the course of a few years, it will thin out as well. DC Stainless headers aren't coated either, they're too pretty to cover up with a ceramic coating!

My experience with heat/header wrap has been the opposite - headers rusting under the heat wrap and you don't find out till the wrap either falls off or you remove the header. Not to mention after a few months of use that stuff is a mess to deal with if you have to remove the header or work in the engine bay. It flakes off and gets all over your skin etc.. what a mess.

If you live in the southwest or an area not prone to rust, ceramic headers will last forever, and I'd venture to guess you can go easily 5-7 years in "rust area" as well. Anywhere that rust is an issue, stainless is probably the way to go though.. and they look so much cooler.
