Thumbs up My Injen 1985c Dual Exhaust review

I installed the exhaust this weekend, and I'm really enjoying it.

Packaging: Packaging was great with nice foam surrounds to protect the parts. Each piece of the exhaust was in a separate bag, and all hardware, gaskets, etc. were sealed in their own pouch.

Instructions: Intstructions were pretty straightforward. I'd call them good, but not great. The pictures were not as clear as they could be, but primarily they were just very small. If they were a little bigger it would have been easier. They walk you along step by step telling you what to do...just what they are supposed to do!

Fitment: Fitment was excellent. Everything went on smoothly, with absolutely no interference with anything. The pipes were clearly labeled Driver and Passenger, so there was never any concern as to where a part was supposed to go.

Quality of parts/welds, etc: The parts look like they are very high quality. The welds were very uniform on all of the parts. The walls of the exhaust appear sturdy, and the tips are a nice thick rim with a inscribed logo. Overall, the system felt very solid to me, although definitely not overly heavy. I was told that the system shaves 35lbs. off of the stock setup.

Sound: Coming from a Y pipe to single exhaust, the sound difference is night and day. This will be a matter of personal choice. My old setup had a very high pitched wail at full throttle, but not as much sound down low in the rev range. This system has a VERY bassy exhaust note. Once you start the car and it warms a bit, the idle is very quiet actually. While driving though, you get a very powerful sound out of the exhaust through the low to mid range, that starts to thin out a bit at high RPM's. On the highway, there isn't really any drone (thank god). I don't find the sound intrusive at all with the windows up. When the radio is on, I don't have to crank it or anything to hear it. The volume of the exhaust is great IMO. It sounds like a sportscar in terms of volume, but it's not obnoxious either. When you're pushing around through town with the windows down (the typical mode here in LA), the car sounds seriously mean. I haven't driven much under continued full throttle (like on a track), but around town driving is awesome. The car just says, "get the F out of my way." If you've ever seen the Best Motoring DVD with the inline six shootout...this exhaust makes the car sound like the old skylines they run. It is a very deep, powerful sound..that's the best way I can describe it. It's more of hollar than a high pitched scream. It's a very unique sound...I'm really enjoying it.

Power: I haven't dyno'd, but the butt dyno tells me the mid range torque is beefed up a bit. I don't feel any loss of low end power that some others mentioned. Up top feels about the same, but I feel like low-mid range has a nice grunt to it.

Side note...I installed the Injen intake this weekend as well, so all impressions are with that intake on the car. I have no other engine mods.

I hope this helps. I'm very happy with the product overall.

about quality. injen is awesome. those are clear machine welds of the highest quality.

just seeing the polished piping all the way through when no one else seems to bother says it all.

Enjoy the exhaust Jeff... if you really feel bold, throw some test pipes on there and scare all other traffic and nearby wildlife away. Hell, it helps scare the deer away from my car at the track.

i miss having only the exhaust on...test pipes make it obnoxious but i like it

about the quality, yes its good...but i had a problem with mine ( a problem that Injen is familiar with)

the primary pipes (the 2 pipes that attach to the cats) have identical cracks aruond the resonators

injen has agreed to replace the pipes for free but its taking them a bit of time to find replacement parts cause the 1985c is the 1st gen angled

otherwise i have no complaints

Hi John,
I'm definitely not running test pipes any time soon...CHPs are a little tighter than those good ole boys down in Virginny!

No vids, no sound clips...others have posted on the site already...mine would be shitty quality anyway from a digital camera.

Havabooz,
I hear you. As long as they take care of the problem, it's cool. I give everyone a chance to make things right. Coming from the manufacturing side of things, I can tell you that things come up that you never expected. Hopefully your situation will be worked out to your satisfaction.
ps Your body kit looks sweet. Please PM me with details on where you got it, how much it was, and what fitment was like. Thanks!
