Default weird black stuff all over my ypipe...

Hey guys,

I noticed this weird smell coming out of my car lately, so I decided to poke my head underneath and saw this weird black stuff all over the driver side of the nismo ypipe... Any ideas what this could be? Is it an oil leak?

close up

I'm also noticing that my car (5AT 2003 G35c) doesn't go past 4k rpm when I go WOT @ 80 mph.... could this have anything to do with it?

Appreciate any input/suggestions. Thanks!

Melted plastic bag or piece of trash you may have drove over?

i think it is a garbage bag... scraped off a pice while the car was warm and looked/smelled like it... thanks for the suggestion, never even occurred to me...

but still wondering about that WOT issue.... it just seems to struggle after 80 mph when i floor it... but around 50-60 it screams and pulls nicely....

I have a grounding kit, nismo exhaust, z tube.... my ypipe is a little scraped up now that I put RSR springs on it... could a leak in the ypipe cause something like this?

yes it sure could. I just noticed you have an aftermarket y. What kind did you end up getting?

Black plastic bag thing happened to me recently too, doesn't smell too great.

Havent had a chance to get under there yet. Anyone have any suggestions on getting it off besides scraping it?

4th or 5th, I think... dunno... it's an auto tranny.

If it's normal then that's fine... just felt kinda weird flooring it and not feeling anything happening (as you can tell I don't drive my car very hard)....... reminded me of my old honda accord.

I know, shame on me for drawing a comparison between a 4 cylinder honda and a G.

I would not say its normal at all. For some reason the car pulls timing in 4th sometimes. I would have that checked out, if you have not modded your car past intake and exhaust. It took an ecu flash to fix in our cases.

Some stuff called Goof-Off will dissolve some plastics pretty well.

Couldn't find any info on Goo-Off (assuming you meant that instead of Goof-Off -- which sounds like a fun product too!)

Anyone try one of these on plastic?

No it is really called Goof-off!

It comes in an orange colored spray bottle. I used it at work to get some scuff marks off the plastic around a stationary bike and it made the plastic very tacky for about 10 minutes (It was dissolving the top layers)

Be careful, like I said it was dissolving plastic and it smelled STRONG!!! I'd saturate the area and try to wipe it off with a rag. I used latex gloves, they broke after five minutes so work quick.
