Default Nismo header clearance issues?

hi. i'm hoping someone could share info on this problem...

my friend recently installed a set of Nismo headers on his G35 Coupe 5AT, now he seems to have some clearance issue with his new headers.

from original inspection, the steering shaft seems to be rubbing on the headers when he makes sharp right hand turn.

there is very minimal gap between the header and the shaft and it's causing the rubbing....

has anyone had similar experience? what were the solutions?

any info would be greatly appreciated.

thanks.

Yes...I have the BRM headers that are knock offs of the Nismo .It started after I took off my RT cats , gutted them , and put them back on . It kept getting worse . I got rid of the RT caats and put on Crawford cats and it has stopped . I think it just may be how the exhaust pulls on the headers .What might help .....Use a floor jack and loosen up the exhaust bolts on the ends of the header, jack up the exhaust and retighten bolts .

Did he buy these Headers used? NISMO headers had issues with clearance with the first several batches, but this issue was suppose to be rectified within the first several months after release.

I have one of the corrected ones, and there are no rubbing issues.

I went through 4 sets of nismo headers until i got the correct ones. Nismo did release a batch of defective headers. The drivers side was rubbing against the steering column shaft very bad. Nismo kept sending me the bad ones. I ended up writing a 4 page letter to corporate nissan for my 4 months of trouble and headache and they reimbursed me for evry penny i demanded. BUT i did go through hell. However, this problem was corrected a long time ago so i am assuming you brought a used set or maybe purchased an old set.

Just installed my NISMO headers and was worried about this issue. Look on the NISMO logo, which is welded to the passenger side header and you will see the build date stamped into it. Mine had April of this year and I have no clearance issues. That is the only real way to tell without going through the hassle of installing them. I think I remember reading about aron's hassles and that made me check. Good luck. You should be able to contact NISMO and get an exchange for a new set. I think one guy even had his headers re-welded, which is too much for me to do.

I think when nismo replaced the headers, they didnt replace the passenger sides, only the driver side, in which case some headers will not have the build date.
