So I go to pick my hail damaged Maxima today
They says its ready but they haven't had a chance to QC the car after getting it fixed.
My 02 Maxima sustained $5400 in hail damage and the body shop (reputable body shop BTW) replaced the top roof, hood and repainted the top, hood sides and rear quarter panels.
I go to inspect the car and I find over 30 things wrong with the car. There was paint clear coat dripping (well not dripping but it looked like water droplets but it was clear coat paint), paint looked horrible on top, door jams, hood jams, were rough to the touch like they were snaded, did not feel smooth like they were before, car was filthy inside, greasy hand prints on all the panels, windshield and rear window not installed properly, missing some rubber pieces, hood and trunk was not lined correctly. My interior roof liner is stained, scratches on a few panels, brand new that they sunroof visor is cracked.
And the list goes on and on. I was suppose to have this car last week, now the body shop manager said since I found so many things wrong they will need it another week, thats a whole month now! GRRRRR!
So my question is this,
Is the body shop obligated to give me a rental? They initially told me 2-3 weeks tops, this is week #4.
Does this normally happen at bodyshops? Why would they let me take it if they haven't even inspected it (QC'd it)?
I mean the car was in the pickup bay with armor all'd tires, ect. I guess they thought my wife was picking it up today! Geez!
I am so bummed out about this, because I know the car will never be the same!
I am really not sure what to do here. The body shop asst manager who was with me the entire 2 hours going over all the flaws insisted that everything would be repaired and I just have to wait some more for them to fix them!
I am pissed because he didn't even offer a rental, I overheard a customer getting a rental while I was waiting to be seen so not sure!
I know for a fact everything will not be fixed properly? Not sure what to do here?
Thoughts?

Had a lot of bodywork/paint done to my cars over the years.
They dont have to give you rentals, and it isnt always standard to do QC checks prior to handing the car over to the owner. Depends on their policy. Grease marks all over the car is unacceptable. This doesnt sound like a reputable body shop to me.

no matter how reputable the body shop is, they might still have the potential to screw you over. Trust me, body shop business is one of the most dishonest business in the States. I have had bad experience before, so what you really need to do is have them up on their ***, instead of being tolerant. They don't have to give you a rental, but it's not impossible, depends on how good you are convincing the manager.
Again, do not be tolerant. If you see issues/bad quality of work, make them do it right.

Well its going on Week 4 and they promised me the car in two weeks. They have to fix all of the mess they caused. The body shop manager came back from vacation yesterday and called me first thing in the morning, he was not ahppy and promised me the car would be corrected. They did give me rental with no questions asked, my rental is aFord F-150,
I will continue to drive the rental until its fixed.
