Default Coolant Level

I realized that the coolant was below the min level in the tank, but the low coolant light has not come on. Is it okay to pick up any brand/color from PepBoys/Autozone to top it off? Thanks in advance for your help.

To answer your question yes. But to add another related question. I never refilled my reservoir tank before on my other vehicles. And I like this guy, found that my coolant was under the min level. So I refilled and and kept watch on it. Is it normal to lose coolant like that? Mine goes down maybe about 1/4 of an inch every oil change or so. I haven't actually documented it. Does anybody else have to top off their tank?

Coolant doesn't normally disappear - it's gotta leak somewhere - a leaky hose, a blown gasket, etc. The resevoir level on any car will vary with engine temp as the coolant expands and contracts. To determine if you're actually losing coolant you need to compare cold engine level to cold engine level.

As I said, if it is a leak it's a very slow one. I don't notice any leaks and my car isn't smoking out the back. I also did a compression test and everything thing seems to be up to spec. I dunno.
