Default Tranny to be rebuilt, is there hope ?

CONSTANT 3rd gear grind, 25k miles on my original tranny. Forced induction, but never abused.

Dealer plans to rebuild the tranny. Is there hope in this or should I try to get a replacement ?

Same problem grinding into 3rd and 4th at any rpm over 3500. New trans installed tomorrow, dealer said Nissan told him it was cheaper than rebuilding, so they sent it out last week, just got a call, it's here today.

God Luck

You know, I've been told that a "rebuild" is nothing more than ordering a new set of synchros. I don't understand why that would be so expensive.

yea you have to remove the transmission, tear down the transmission (huge puzzle), wash all the parts, replace all the bearings, replace the bad syncros, inspect the shafts for play, use new gaskets and then reinstall the tranny. its not easy...

Awesome news, I found out today thanks to my shop's relentless assault on the Nissan dealership I now have a new tranny.

They told me not to EVER use synthetic tranny oil, as that was probably the biggest issue!
