Default CD skips when cold

After the Z warms up it doesn't skip anymore. Problem is the dealer is 80 miles away so there is no way to have the problem duplicated by the time I would get to the dealer. My question is does this problem get any worse with time? I still have 1 year and 16K miles before my 3 year 36K mile warranty is up so time is somewhat on my side. Anyone have any similar problem and was it resolved by the dealer?

I had the same problem. Eventually it gets warmer throughout the year and you won't have this problem anymore. Also when it's cold the springs holding the hatch tend to exhibit a problem in the cold weather as well.

I've had this problem since I got my Z. I think it's just that the CD player in the Bose system ia a piece of $hit. I asked the dealer and they said there wasn't anything they could do. Usually I just listen to the radio or turn the CD volume down for a few minutes until it warms up. I've also noticed that songs farther in on the CD don't seem the cut out so much so I'm sure it has something to do with the CD transport when it's cold.

I'm a litttle late on this thread but I am going to open the head unit and clean the crunky crap out of the transport guides and crossshaft and re-lube it. I did not have this problem for the first two years and now its gone absolutly crackers. Any time of day but only when cold. very annoying problem. I have never experienced it with any other car (OEM or AFTER) in any temp even sub zero.

Most likely a very wimpy transport that needs alot of lube in certain places when it gets old it can get a little crusty if the lube is low qual stuff.

But why would Clarion use low qual lube on a cheesy transport in pretty worthless headunit? They would not do that would they? HAHA I hope some putz got fired over this design. and took the amplifier asswipe with him.

Not true. There is a TSB on this, and quite a number of posts on this topic (search). My HU did the same thing and the dealership replaced free of charge. You can check the NHTSA website to find the basic information. Even with it being 28 degrees in the morning now, I haven't had the problem return.

Here's just an update. I got my headunit replaced twice on a separate issue and one thing I didn't originally notice was the fact that it doesn't skip anymore when it's ICY outside. So go talk to your dealer and see what they can do for you.

Default hmmm

I had my head unit replaced twice because of the left channel cutting out on CD player mode.

NOW that this problem was fixed... NOW I have the problem with the cold weather skipping.

Should I get the head unit replaced yet again? Same things apply here as what I'm reading above... higher track numbers skip less and once the car warms up, it's okay! I have a 35 mile commute to work each morning and about the time I'm ready to leave the car when I get to work, it's working almost perfectly... annoying as all hell.

yeah today when I was putting my backpack in my car the hatch fell on my head. What a great way to start the day. And yeah, I have also noticed that some cds will skip around when its cold out. but never past the first or second song, only thing is I've already had the HU replaced once.
