Reputable Mechanic / New Short Block
Can anyone recommend a reputable mechanic in New Jersey? I would like to avoid any future visits to Nissan's service department - everytime I visit one of their service departments here in Jersey I either walk out with a new problem or something broken.
I recently had my short block replaced due to excessive oil consumption. I had to fight to get that problem recognized - it took me 2 years, 30k miles, and I believe I may have lost some hair in the process! Now I have a new problem. Actually it's not new, I had this problem prior to my block being replaced but I was hoping it was related to the oil consumption.
There is this intermittent loss of power. More specifically, there is a very sluggish response when I try to accelarate quickly in the low gears (I have a M/T). What makes it even more weird is that it comes and goes. This leads me to believe I may have an issue with one of my sensors. The only thing I've noticed since the "heart surgery" on my Z is that the idle never drops below 750 PRM (I'm assuming the first mark below the 1000 mark is 750). I believe it is supposed to be 650 RPM +/-50. However, I don't know if this has anything to do with the block being new.
If I had to guess which sensor would cause the problem I'm describing, I would say either the throttle position sensor, mass air flow sensor or the knock sensor. The key is that it comes and goes... one day its snapping my neck back and the next its not... and these are under the same temperature, road, etc conditions.
I would appreciate if anyone has some insight on this issue and, more importantly, a reputable mechanic they can recommend to perform an overall inspection of the engine control system. I'm tired of fighting and wasting time in the dealership. I just want my baby fixed so I can go back to enjoying her. I refuse to part with my Z!
