A different manual tranny problem
I know that many of you have reported grinding and 'ticking' when the cluch pedal is let out, but I am experiencing a different problem. I only noticed this because I had my window rolled down one day while pulling back into my garage.
I have a steep driveway which then turns 90 degrees to the left into the garage. I always come to a stop at the bottom of the driveway to ease the car over the 'lip' and then put the car into first and head on up the driveway. As I reach the top of the driveway, I let off of the gas, turn left and (when I am about 1/2 way into my garage) I push the cluch pedal in (to take it out of gear and slow doan). When I push the cluch pedal in, there is a VERY distinct, and load, ticking which slows down and stops over about 3 seconds. It sounds like something is spinning down.
I ONLY hear this in this situation and have never heard it under any other driving situation AND I only heard it because my window was down.
Has anyone else experienced this?
1 - Car cluch pedal depressed
2 - Car is in first gear (I have not moved the shifter to neutral)
3 - Car is turning left (I don't think this has anything to do with it)
4 - Car is moving slowly, but under stress (going up hill) when I put the cluch pedal in
5 - Ticking occurs and quickly slows and ceases
This is not the same as the 'ticking' hear at idle with the cluch pedal out...
Thanks

Sorry, but no similar problem here. Although I don't have an uphill driveway I'll try it here someplace and see if it repeats given your directions on reproducing the noise.
No grinding from your's, just the ticking noise?

Hey, thanks for the response. I do not have any grinding, just the ticking. I also figured out that it only happens while I have the cluch pedal in AND the shift lever is still in first. If I move the shift lever to Neutral (and keep the cluch pedal in), the ticking stops. I was also able to notice that it happens on flat ground too, but is VERY hard to notice. I believe it sounds extra loud to me because I am in my garage. Try bringing the car next to a building (something the sound can bounce off of), roll down your window, from a stop, begin going in first and once the pedal is all the way out, jam it back in again and listen. My car makes a distinct ticking/clunking sound.
Other than that, the car runs and drives just great (well, I do have the seat rail problem)...
