Oh boy!

There are no signs of that at all in my Z so far. I mean I do only have 520 miles on the clock. But like is said above it's nice and stiff. I can't believe that ride can really be that SOFT. If it is, there is no doubt Nissan has to address it.

 

I wouldnt say its soft per se..the springs and shocks are just mismatched..seems like some people still dont understand the problem even though many threads have exhausted it to death..to bad nissan isnt doing anything about it though.

So the next question is, can you change the spring rates without replacing the springs?

 

If you mean cutting the stock springs, don't do it! It will compromise your springs normal action and can be dangerous. No professional installer will ever do that, they would be liable if something went wrong and the driver and any passengers were hurt.

The only other alteration I have ever heard of is heating them and that is bad also. Change springs, don't try to alter yours.

Boomer--use it or lose it, I don't care. Actually, I do care. I think its dangerous to try and change the stock springs.

Wow, I cannot believe there is anyone that bought this car and thinks the ride is "too harsh". It is a freaking sports car!

Actually, my only complaint is that it seems to have more body roll than my last car did after 100,000 miles!! When I bought my '94 Probe GT brand new you could definately not push down anywhere on the car and have it even move. I traded it in with 164,000 miles with all the original suspension components minus new ball joints and it still felt good - not like new but not enough to replace it yet. The Z brand new you can push it down and start bouncing it like you were going to do a bounce test on an old big car to see how the suspension is holding up. Granted it is a very small up and down travel but it appears to have been designed in an attempt to eliminate all of the complaints that Nissan anticipated about a harsh ride. The Z does handle great but it must do it much differently than my last car. It's not enough to want to change it but when it's time to replace things I will definately try to pay attention to all these things here before I buy something because I would definately not want to duplicate the stock feeling. Not sure how else to explain it right now

 

Well, I'm one of them. I had one of the first '03 coupes and it bounced all over the road. I just picked up a brand new (left over) '05 Roadster and I have to say, the ride quality is 1,000 times better. While the coupe was fun to drive and I know it's a sports car, it was tiring. Driving the Roadster is a lot less work. Also, the lack of rattles, window grease, tire feathering , etc. are nice too.
