Default A/C Kicks Out Warm Air

my a/c isnt working anymore. i have no idea what could of caused it.

it was working fine all day, i turn off the car for 10 minutes and turn it back on and nothing. warm air. i hear it kick on when i push the a/c button, but the air stays warm.

im going to jack up the car and take a look underneath the car tonight, but i would like to know what i should be looking for. what are some possibilities? thanks.

I'd check the A/C fuse first. Freon level after that and make sure the condensor fan is kicking on as well.

definatlely check the freon level if you have gauges, might have sprung a leak...if you did, it can leak out that fast....any hissing when you shut the car off ??

ok i check the fuses inside the car and under the hood. everything is fine. the condenser does turn on and the wheel spins when i push the a/c button.

there is not hissing when i turn off the car.

i dont have a tool that can measure freon levels. im going to try that next. its sooo hot in my car.

there is a gauge that you can pick up from walmart to check the pressure in the a/c system. If the freon pressure is way too low, the compressor wouldn't even kick in at all.

im going to buy the gauge right now. the compressor doesnt even kick on anymore, so im guessing there's a leak somewhere.

yeah, sounds like you have a leak. if you have a UV light try looking for leaks at the joints and any components below the lines where it could have dripped. there's usually dye mixed in with the refrigerant that will glow under a UV.

any independant garage should be able to detect the leak and fix the A/C for a fair price plus parts.

Mine did the same thing. Turned out that I shredded the AC belt somehow. 150 bucks and now my ac is cold as ice.

Do You Have A Turbonetics Kit? If So That Is Your Problem, Probably Your High And Low Line, I Just Got My Kit Installed And The Exhaust From Turbo Burned Through Both Lines, Cost Me $950 Just To Get The Lines Rerouted, They Have To Uninstall The Top Part Of The Turbo. Yeah Really Pissed Me Off, Then I Had To Refill It With Freon For The Second Time, Since I Filled It Up When They Did Kit, But Then When I Drove It, About 3 Days Later No Worky. Love The Tn Kit, But I Have Spent Over $1200 Extra Dollars On It, Plus Time Taking It Back And Forth To Places Trying To Figure It Out. So You Might Want To Get It Leak Tested To See If You Had Any Leaks And If You Did Then Make Sure You Test Both High And Low Lines Completely.

all the belts are fine and my car isnt turbo-ed. the only thing i've done recently was install the pi-thon locks which have nothing to do with the a/c. i lowered my car and have since bottomed out quite a few times. im guessing thats probably what caused it. i dont have time to do anything with it right now. i've been busy all week and i have a show and a meet this weekend. hopefully ill find someone to take a look at it on monday. wow does it get hot in my car without the a/c.

sucks to hear you spent $1200 bucks for something like that. i was getting pissed about $160. lol.

i just had the a/c fixed in my 02 supercharged xterra...

compressor would kick on, fuses were good...I tried to recharge with a kit from autozone but no dice....

took it in to the tune of 470.00............leak on the high pressure line, replaced and good as new!!!!!!!!

new high psi line: 90-
new in cabin filter (they were TRASHED) 35-
r134 coolant: 40-
ac dye: 15

+ 240 in labor at 75/hour........

now, seemed a little pricey...but seeing as i drive 100 miles per day and live in FLA i had to have it done....

I've had two instances where the a/c would not get cold. Both times the car had to be shut off and turned back on for the a/c to start working again.

^^^+1

I also seem to notice that the AC won't work properly if you select the mode to use only air from inside the car. I never do this, but the system does it automatically sometimes (done automatically if you hold the bottle to toggle to inside/outside air a few seconds).
If the system only uses air from the inside, it doesn't seem to get as cold as normal.

Hey did you say u had pi-thon locks installed recently? did you had to removed the lower steering panel under by any chance? theres a small 2 pin connector for the in-car sensor for the AC system? try check if thats connected....see if that helps, i ve seen this before.
