Default A/C & Fan Control Switch

Why does the A/C start up every time I turn the blower fan on after starting the car? [The fan is always turned to the off position before I shut the car down.]

It always requires a two step process to get the heat, etc. set. I haven't found anything in the owners manual about this.

Problem, or is everyone's like this?

a/c on is the default setting because it removes moisture from the air, which keeps the windows from fogging.

You're thinking manually.

The Z has an automatic climate control. Set all dials to AUTO and adjust your temperature as desired. Then there are no "steps" to be taken. Just start your car and drive.

The A/C and Heat run together to reduce humidity and fogging. It's that way in all cars with auto climate controls.

As I was waiting for the page to load, I was thinking the exact same thing: Is it possible that vehicles with climate control work in this way.

That must be the answer, and now it's confirmed.

Thank you.

Yeah, it's working properly but I think it sucks. It never does what I want it to do. I leave the fan on the first notch above auto, that keeps the A/C off until you switch to defrost, then you have to turn the compressor off again. I would have definately deleted the climate control if it had been an option. Most of the cheaper Jap cars have a nice simple A/C button which you can turn on or off in any ventilation mode, I like that. The domestic cars all have stupid HVAC controls that only run the compressor in the settings where they think it should run. That's even worse.

I agree with the simple controls theory. The best vehicle I've ever had was my wife's 95 Camry with the rotary dials and the switches for recirc/ac/rr defrost. I could always set it the way I wanted. Although I deplore having the ac compressor come on automatically with defrost. Better yet was my 81 Celica where that didn't happen.

What appealed to me about this Z was the simplicity of the car's design and execution. No added fluff, I didn't want a "no-go, Showboat." I think Nissan did a poor job on the climate controls here; they're too touchy in a stiff riding car such as ours and need more resistance to get the tactile feel right. And you can't read them easily. Told the factory rep that after having the car for less than a week [back in Sept.]

More money should have gone into interior refinement, and less into this gizmo called climate control.

Oh well, so it goes...
