Angry Technical service bulletins

Can anyone please give me the specifics of ALL the service bulletins that have been issued for the 350Z? My car came in yesterday and I was supposed to pick it up this morning but a snowstorm that started earlier this morning and is expected to last through Friday morning will delay me picking up the car for perhaps up to 3 days or so.

I just saw one of the posts that indicated that there was a service bulletin issued for the toe in problem and I though that there was at least one other one issued for the replacement of the Bose amplifier (system?).

I would greatly appreciate as much detail as possible including the actual number of the service bulletins and even copies of the service bulletins themselves if at all possible. My intention is to make sure while the dealer still has the car that all of these service bulletins are addressed on my car BEFORE I take delivery.

I must admit that I have always had the attitude that you should not buy the first year of any new product regardless of the manufacturer but I like the looks of the car so much that I hope I don't regret violating my own rule. But, then again, you can always second guess yourself any time you make a decision, especially a significant one.

Thanks for the help,
Tom

I definitely think this forum could use a sticky with all of the TSBs that have been issued for 350Zs. Perhaps somebody could put a list together if they have access to the TSBs at the dealership and they could be stickied in this forum.

I doubt very much that the dealer will go through every TSB issued and check your car against them. They will do just the standard PDI. Your car may have none of the problems because it's a later production anyway.

Most dealers will not give people copies of TSB's, mine won't. I've asked the Service/Parts Manager who is also part owner and he will not release that info.

There was a Warranty specialist that worked at a Florida dealership that was aiding us in getting copies but he may have gotten in trouble as there have been no recent postings or responses to PM's.

Since you haven't even gotten your car yet the Bose TSB would not apply as your VIN would not fall into the series affected.

Take the car, have fun with it and what ever little bugs come up deal with it then. Have a little optimism.

Thumbs up

zwindsor:

You're probably right about the optimism. My biggest problem is going from two cars to three cars because I want to keep my van which is a 2001 Pontiac Montana. It's just so damned convenient having something that you can carry almost anything in.

BTW, which clear bra kit do you have? The 3M one or one of the others and can tell me what your experiences have been with it to this point? Could you possibly answer the following questions if I am not being too nosey?

How long have you had it installed?

How many miles driven with it installed?

Any yellowing or problems when you have waxed the car?

Cost, if that's not too personal?

Length of time to install and did you install it or have it installed by a professional installer?

How long after you bought the car did you have it installed?

Also by any chance have you gotten into the Zaino treatments? I may not go that route. I may just keep the car waxed.

I may just initially do the 3M covering for the headlights.

Thanks for taking the time to give me the feedback if you have the time.

I GOT THE 3M BRAND. VERY HAPPY WITH IT. IF YOU'RE REALLY INTO KEEPING A VEHICLE A LONG TIME AND WANT IT TO ALWAYS LOOK NICE THEN DO IT. THIS PAINT IS NOT TUFF AT ALL AND WITH THE LARGE FACIA IT'S WIDE OPEN TO STONE ASSAULT.

How long have you had it installed? SINCE EARLY OCT.

How many miles driven with it installed? ABOUT 3K

Any yellowing or problems when you have waxed the car? NONE. JUST MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE EDGES CLEAN FROM WAX BUILDUP

Cost, if that's not too personal? $500 INSTALLED (special price)

Length of time to install and did you install it or have it installed by a professional installer? PRO INSTALL (only way to do it right), TOOK ABOUT 3 HRS.

How long after you bought the car did you have it installed? ABOUT 1 WEEK. I DIDN'T WANT TO GET STONE CHIPS AS MANY OTHERS WERE ALREADY COMPLAINING ABOUT.

Also by any chance have you gotten into the Zaino treatments? I may not go that route. I may just keep the car waxed. YES, UP TO 7 COATS NOW. SO SMOOTH AND SLIPPERY. I'VE WASHED IT 2-3 TIMES SINCE THE LAST COAT ABOUT 2 MONTHS AGO AND THE WATER JUST GLIDES OFF. OF COURSE THIS IS A GARAGE QUEEN 2ND CAR SO IT REALLY DOESN'T GET VERY DIRTY OR LEFT OUT IN THE ELEMENTS.

I may just initially do the 3M covering for the headlights. YOU'LL FIND MOST DAMAGE WILL OCCUR ON THE FRONT FACIA NOT THE HEADLIGHTS EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE AN EXPENSIVE LIABILITY AREA. IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO A CLEAR BRA DO IT ALL AT ONCE. PROBABLY GET A BETTER OVERALL PRICE TOO.

Thanks for the feedback. $500...special price? Do you know the people who did it? I was given a guesstimate of $750 - $800 which I though was pretty steep.

Thanks,
Tom

It was a local outfit here in North Calif. call INVISIGARD that was offering a special deal to all forum members in the area. I was the last to get that price and it covered all exposed areas. Now they charge extra for the headlights.

How far up the hood and how far up and over the edge of the fenders does the clear bra go? Can you even notice that it's actually on the hood and fenders? I ordered a brickyard so I wonder if it would be more noticeable on a darker color?

Also, a strange question...what color is the headliner in your car? I could have sworn that when I looked at a black Z several months ago that the headliner was dark. Charcoal or black maybe. Yet, the headliner in the brickyard that has a charcoal leather interior is light gray-blue and the dealer said that they are all that way. Maybe I really didn't notice before because I was so enamored with the car. I really don't care for a light colored headliner in an otherwise dark interior.

It goes up 2 feet on the hood and the fenders are in line with that. The material doesn't overlap or wrap around any edges. It's about 1/4" away from all edges.

Yes the line is noticable but not too bad. It should be less noticable on a dark car. Do a good forum search. There are Bricks and DB's that have had it done.

The headliner is the same light color (tan in my opinion) regardless of exterior color. They did that so the interiors wouldn't be so dark or mass colored with the charcoal or carbon interiors.

It would be nice if we could have access to all the technical service bulletins. Here is an old one to start us off:

It would be even nicer if someone were to post the 350Z service manual CD on one of the Internet news groups and then let us know which one so we could download it.

I'd be glad to post the service manual if someone has a site that everyone can get to it. it's about 100MB. Way cool manual, it's all pdf, talks about fixing rattles and creaks to how to take the entire dash appart with exploded views of evrything. I also found out why my aftermarket stereo wasnt getting good reception on fm. the antenna has an amplifier with a turn on lead. got to connect the turn on lead to my decks power antenna lead. email me if you got a place to put it.
