Default problems filling up the gas tank on 06

Hi all. I oculd not find a topic like this. Is there some secret for filling up the gas tank? Mine always cuts off at 3/4 full and wont fill up any more no matter how I reposition the spout. It would be nice to fill up the tank all the way. ANyone have problems like this? Thanks for your help.

Don

You have the infamous shutter valve problem. Some seem to correct themselves or be sporadic in misbehaving, others have to be replaced.

"Gas fill problem" in Search found countless related threads.....

This issue had a TSB released for it, the link is below. If your can is under warranty, take it in and they will fix it.

Temporary fix would be to hold the gasoline nozzle upside down, should work like a charm...

I was having this problem with every fill up but a day at the track solved it so the last time it happened I just did some quick back and forth steering moves like race drivers do to warm up their tires then went back to the gas station and filled the tank up with no problems. I'm starting to think the problem happens when I run the tank down to the last 1-2 gallons before re-filling.

I've been having this problem too. If you fill it up when the car is cool (like leaving for work) it fills up no problem. Take it to the dealer and they should offer to replace the shutter valve. The first dealer I went to wouldn't do it because the TSB only mentioned the pre-06 models. I had to go to a different dealer and they ordered the part for me.

I just started having this problem a couple days ago. Right after i had my Hotchkis springs installed, although I'm not sure if the springs are to blame. It filled up halfway, twice in a row now. Called Nissan, and they said it could be a number of things. I'm going to let some time pass to see if it keeps happening, and then take it in if so.

Friday I ran my Z all the way down to where the mileage "DTE" quit showing and flashed the "_ _ _ _". Pulled in for a fill up. I didn't turn the handle upside down (180 degrees), but turned it sideways (90 degrees). I also set it on the slowest notched auto fill up (some pump handles are missing this). It filled up completely, and took exactly 17 1/2 gallons. I have read that when you reach no mileage left on the DTE there are 3 gallons left, I had 2 1/2. I don't know if the slow fill up and quarter turn on the handle worked or if it is just intermittent with me and decided to work. Next fill up I will do the same and see what happens.

I have an 06 ZR-got it 9/06. Same problem. (Built 5/06) I was at the dealer having the NISMO exhaust installed (very happy with it!) and mentioned the gas fill problem I was having-they checked and said it had been fixed with the 06's........hmmmm maybe not. We'll see.

Just ran my DTE to 3 miles last week. Only took 17.2 gallons to full, clearly had more than 2 gallons left.

If your car was older I'd think something else, but the infamous shutter valve problem is likely, may get better with age, but clearly would be cleared up by the TSB (which was not so bad other than in ripping the rear end of my car apart the mech managed to ding/chip the paint on both sides' Brembos...

I just had my fuel tank, valve, sending unit all replaced on my 06.

First time repair, dealer only replaced the shutter valve and made the problem 10x worse by only letting me put in only 2 gallons of gas.

I took the car back immediately and they decided to change out the sending unit and the fuel tank, took about 2 weeks for everything to get done.

I"m still on my first tank of fuel since the new tank was replaced. I'm PRAYING it is finally fixed.

On another note: I'm losing about 1/2 quart of oil per 1000 miles, dealer thinks it's normal.......I dunno about that?
