Hey dude your local ! GREAT!!! I am in process of going to the Sheehy Nissan dealer in Manassas. I had an oil change done there about 2 weeks ago and I am keeping an "I" on my oil level as it was kinda low after bout 2500 miles. Iam going back at 9,724 miles. Iam driving it normal but of course getting on it sometimes, no redlining though. Keep me posted on what happens with your car.

Got a bad dipstick reading but there was smoke coming out of the hole you put the oil in. I hope my car was okay. afterwards it ran fine, pressure improved as well but not back to the way it used to be when i first got the car. before pressure gauge was basically unresponsive to throttle, after adding oil pressure gauge needle moved same time as throttle was pushed.
Wow thats scary as crap wtf is up with these issues. Makes me think bout trading in the Z if this is a common problem ........ I'll take a lexus with 350 HP

Seriously though let the dealer know bout it I would be worried bout my cams and so fourth.
i dont think the problem is that big of a deal as long as you keep an eye on your oil....thats why the dip stick is there...my z was manufactured in aug o5 and i burn quite a bit of oil but its only a quart every few thousand miles...i check it every 3 or 4 gas fill ups..my friend has a 02 firehawk and he goes threw 3 quarts every few thousand mile

[QUOTE=hieu]How about burning until its bone dry in 3000 miles? Car was bought in May of 06. On an oil consumption test now ...[/QUOTE
thats the first i heard of bone dry in 3000 miles...thats might be a cause of something else like not letting the motor break in properly

Where have you been dude? If I would have let mine go it would have been empty in 3000 miles. Initially I was losing 1 quart per 1k miles and it got up to 1 quart per 500 miles. If no oil was added that would equal 6 quarts lost in 3k miles....that sounds like empty to me.
There have been many other people who have posted on this forum that have had the same consumption issues. It's not to be blamed automatically on the break in procedure either. I followed break in by the book and I still had the problem.

Just a follow up.....for you guys that have been reading here for awhile,,You know I had my 06 engine replaced for oil consumption at 1900 miles...about three months ago. This was suppose to be the engine Nissan made changes to eliminate the oil consumption. As of now,,,I am at 4k miles and had no more issues. I did the 500 mile and 1200 mile, no more than 4k RPM's follow up at the dealer.. The head mechanic said,,now that its past the break-in,,drive the **** out of it and lets see what it does. So far,,,after several out of town road trips,,,driving normal,,playing some ect, ect....the oil level has not moved...I am keeping my fingers and other body parts crossed..LOL
I've only got 240 miles on my 06 but I'm trying to gain as much knowledge of this oil consumption problem as possible,I checked my oil the other day and it was between L and H,I bought the car with 160 miles on it,I have to also check the manufacturing date I think it was may of 06
hey, as a matter of what oil to use, check out this poll.

I have an '06 I bought new late Jan 06. I have just over 7k, and have had 3 oil changes (every 2k) using Mobil 1 synthetic. (Some people say use regular oil to allow break in then switch to synthetic, oh well).
I have been lucky enough to be sponsored by Valvoline so in a matter of less than a thousand miles more, I will be using their products.
I have read and heard about the oil consumption issue they say is affecting 2006 models.
I certainly hope if need be that they take care of this issue, especially if you are wanting to keep the car. The problem in the future is that if this is a problem, people are gonna want to sway away from buying the Z which in my opinion is a nice car to own.
Im watching my oil levels, even though Im not a daily driver.
Peace,

If theres a ligitimate oil burning problem go to the dealership. They should get you a new motor and pay for your rental. Thats what they did for me. Ive put 400miles on since and so far so good but time will time. Hopefully time will tell me this motor is good.

Knowledge is power, thanks for the heads up on the oil guzzling condition. I have an '06 manufactured in Sept or '06. I just bought it last month with 68 miles on it. Now up to @ 500ish miles. Just did my first oil change last weekend. I'll keep an eye on oil levels - Thanks guys.

i just called nissan consumer affairs and they said that they still havent heard anything about the oil consumpton problems.that worries me. i also call a coulpe of dealerships here in new orleans and they also said that they havent about that either.i bought my 06 in nov.i havent checked my oil yet(z is in the shop because of a fender bender, replacing rear bumber)but as soon as i get my car back i'm goin to check my oil. i have about 2700 miles on her.crossing my fingers right now
soleil350z,most dealerships are gonna say that they havent heard of any oil consumption problems so that people dont worry about it and dont think bad things about nissan cars in general, word travels fast and if one person has a issue with they're car of course they're gonna tell friends and family to not buy it or stay away from it,i didnt know of the oil issue until the 2nd day I bought the car and read up on it on the board, but even then I love my z and still would have bought it,not sure how many exactly are having oil consumption problems but its more than just a couple and its not just in the U.S.
i totally agree with u. dont get me wrong.i just found out about this a couple of nights ago.my car is in the shop and i'm anxious to check my oil.hopefully i'll get my car back soon
