Totally Normal. I think it has something to do with the Tranny though I've stood right under the car and had my Pop's turn it off and it sounds like it came from the tranny. Slight middle of the car.

Definitely a normal noise, and I'd tend to agree with those saying it's the throwout bearing or some other part of the clutch assy.

Interesting idea would be to listen carefully to a 5AT shutting down... hmm...

First I wanted to say I searched. YEAH!!!! and it worked it lead me to this forum. Last night after doing some careful donughts and/drifting around for a minute or so. I noticed when I turned my car off it made a shaking noise. I usually dont notice things like this until I did something extreme in my car. LOL.

I thought I busted up a motor mount of something. Well turning the car on and off this morning it wasnt as noticeable as it was last night. (again ears seem to hear more after you do some silly driving).

So to test out the theory that if you hold your clutch in and turn the car off you wont hear the sound is correct. Just tested it 1 minute ago. Did it a few times to make sure I wasnt imagining it. Tested turning the car off with out touching the clutch and I get a slight rattle not enough to annoy me though sounds normal. Pressed the clutch in and turned ignition off and no noise. It was a smooth shut down.

These forums are becoming more and more helpful for me thanks guys.

OMG I am not the only one with this noise. I have taken my car into the dealership like 4 times and they changed the throwout bearing and the flywheel, not knowing where the problem really lied. I still have the noise. I have now got 25K on my 06.

I found something out one day though, I get the same noise when I am in 1st gear(going about(15mph) and have the clutch depressed(car is now coasting).

I will take your word for it guys if this is normal. Thanks

It's the flywheel. Hasn't this been covered 100,000 times here before?

I'm sure it posted somewhere in the thread, just depress the clutch pedal when you turn off the car. Sound stops. Bingo.

i am glad i found this thread. tonight, when i got home, i heard the grinding "rock" sound while my '07 was in neutral with my foot off the clutch (you can only hear it with the door open). it scared the **** out of me. it goes away after about 10 seconds. so this is nothing to worry about, right?
