Default Air Intake/Manifold Maintenance

This question is geared toward both my Z and my dd, a 94 318is. I am pretty meticulous about maintaining the both of them, but in my online research while trying to compose a complete maintenance program, I have gotten hung up on what is necessary for intake manifold maintenance. I clean my K&n in the bmw and popcharger in the Z regularly, but I have read about ICV cleaning for the BMW and PCV replacement for the Z. Also, I have seen products that you spray into your MAF, etc. I am sure all of you can see where I am going with this.

I guess my question is...what kind of regular maintenance, if any, should I do on this part of my engine? Should I only clean/replace these parts if i have a rough idle? I have heard accounts of that.

Thank you for any input. This is bothering the hell out of me. I just want to get the best gas mileage/power out of vehicles...but who doesn't??

well if you have oiled your intake filter, the MAF most likely would be dirty. Either spray in mass airflow/electronic cleaner or throttle body NON CLORINATED cleaner..both can be found at a automotive shop.

I like my non oiling filter that came with my Turbonetics kit. Dry filter. Just wash and dry. But really make sure it is dry thoroughly.

I always cleaning my filter several times a year. Peace of mind. So far as the MAF, I'm not sure. Never have cleaned it. My car has always run great. I need to look in the manual about that.

So just pick some up and follow the directions on the bottle? Any particular brand? Or do you happen to use any specific technique that you find to be better?

Thanks for the input SuperBlack350.

By the way, my car runs just fine. Very smooth. Is there really a need?
