Default Clutch pedal on the floor

First off I did a couple different searches on this topic and couldnt find the answer i was looking for. SO here goes. I was getting off an entrance ramp yesterday and when I went to shift into 6th the clutch went to the floor and stayed there. Pulled over and looked and I had no fluid left in the slave(master) cylinder. This has happened to me twice when I was driving my cavalier so I'm pretty sure I know I've got a leak somewhere in the hihgh pressure line from the cylinder to the tranny. It has been raining and I just got the car in the garage to let it dry off and see if I can find the exact place the leak is coming from. I was wondering if anyone has any link to a thread or a website that has a walkthrough for the replacement of my slave cylinder. Any help would be greatly appreciated? and do you think Its an easy enough install to do myself, or should I have it done at the stealyoshit. Thanks again.

I blew my line out about 5 months ago while driving . . . when i say belw out I mean it was obliterated. I replaced mine with a kevlar line i got from forged.

Might want to take a look see under the car and check the line for a tear.

ok man thanks. I saw someone on here say they bought a braided steel line or something like that. I am really considering it since I've had this happen to me three times now. Did you replace yours or did you have it done?

Are you running forced induction?

I ask, because F/I, and especially turbos, put a lot of heat into the rubber clutch line. I had to replace my clutch line with a braded stainless steel line because of this; after a hot lap, the clutch would go to the floor.

unfortunately not FI. good ol fashion NA. I would like to find a braided line, hopefully just the line broke and I can just replace it and not the whole cylinder assembly. Where did you get the line from? I looked on forged performance but to no avail. But i do have an aftermarket clutch set up thats alot stiffer than stock. I'm sure that didnt help. It's been on there for a while though.

i just called them and ask. Not sure if its a web item.

Let me ask you, once on the floor, can you lift the pedal back up and still regain the use of your clutch or is it sitting dead in the water right now? If your line is not busted and you are still losing fluid, i would go with your first assumption.

Either way, the SS or kevlar line is a good idea. Its an easy replacement that you could do yourself if you have any ability at all.

sweet. I'm in school to be a mechanic, I shoud be ok. To answer your question, when i go to put the clutch in it goes straight to the floor with no resistance at all due to haveing no fluid in the cylinder and it stays suck to the floor. I have to pull it back up with my foot. would you happen to know of any sites or posts I can go to for a little help with the repair?

If you still have problems after you install the new line go to your dealer and find out about the TSB recall on the slave cylinder. Nissan is replacing them under warranty.

Its a 2003. Thanks vandy. Thats a huge help. I knew they were recalling the 07's but i didnt know anything about fixing this for free on the 03's. Thats awesome if thats the case. UPDATE: I just checked the hose from my master to clutch orifice and everything is ok there. My next guess would be hose between the lock plate and the operating cyl. Wish me luck.

That recall is only for 07's, so your car doesn't apply.

figured that. i think i've got it but we'll see. Its never as easy as you hope. UPDATE: Well I got the car up in the air and there wasn't any fluid dripping or it wasn't wet anywhere. My clutch line that goes into the tranny is wrapped up. The part that is confusing me is the fact that I put fluid back into the master cylinder and when i put the clutch in I thought it would give a little resistance and I would feel it forcing the fluid out somewhere but I didnt. I got a dead pedal that goes straight to the floor. This makes me think that its either that master or slave has gone bad. I had my buddy hit the pedal while i watched the lines and i got nothing. Maybe i blew a rubber gasket or something inside a cylinder?

It was the slave cylinder. I got a new one and repaced it and now as bad as this sounds, I 'm having a terrible time trying to bleed the system. I've been at it for a while now and nothing. I can't get any change in the pedal. I'm pressing the pedal down with the bleeder open and then closing the bleeder while the pedal is getting released all the while making sure the overflow reservior is full. Is that right or am i an idiot?
