Default How much to fix, TSB fuel tank difficult to fill

I am having the NTBO5-048 fuel tank is difficult to fill program. The question then is, since I am out of warranty (I have about 54000 miles on the car) and how much will it cost to fix the issue via the dealer? Its difficult to fill the car up on to the point where I only fill it up give or take 10 gallons wareas before I could take 15 gallons when the low fuel light goes on. With only 10 gallon in the tank after the low light, I can only fill it about 3/4 from the top.

i believe this was a recall, therefore warranty doesnt matter...its covered. Call them and ask!

hmmm. . .call service, give them your vin and ask if there are any recalls on it. usually TSB's are $ repairs. .but recalls are done free. .i know there is a fuel line above the tank recall for the 03's. . .not sure if it's the same problem. .

Different problem. The recall is for some fuel hoses. The bulletin is for a shutter valve that needs to be replaced. Call us if you want an estimate.

oHhhh yes i see the TSB for shutter valve. .looks easy to fix as well. .if u want diagrams and procedure's let me know..i can fax them over to you. . .simple enough that u can go threw the fuel pump opening on top . . .under your glove box. . .
you'll need
Fuel Level Sensor O-ring pt# 17342-CE800
Shutter Valve pt# 17260-AM600

If you do attempt to do it yourself good luck and be careful. Cutting your arm up while it is sitting in gasoline stings a little.

i'd suck out the gas 1st or drive around till empty or close to. . .then when u remove those 4 twist screw off the pumps enclosure. .u can tape up the edges so u dont cut yourself. .assuming you do it yourself. .

i would imagine they are going to want 3-$400 in labor. Drop rear sways, exhaust and gas tank... shoudl take them all day at $120 an hour.... sorry for your problems brother. Take it in for the recall they will figure out the rest once they have it off there

It is done from inside the car so the tank can stay but yes somewhere around 3-4 hours to fix.

3-4 hours may be a tad too much... . .its pretty easy to get to from inside the car and you might not have to take the glove out . .that little drop section pulls right out. .and the fuel pump hole's right there. . thats where i ran my 02 wideband sensor threw past the tank. . .it's pretty easy. .should take least an experienced person about hour n 1/2 at max. .

Mine is getting repaired tomorrow because of the dealerships lack of having the parts. I was quoted $119 for the diagnostic (although I told them what the problem was) and $350 for the repair for a total of $500ish when all is said and done. I am actually quite disturbed about the cost but oh well, I want my fuel gauge and dte to read correctly. I actually feel bad, I tried to argue that this should be covered under the powertrain warranty to no avail.

Unhappy Help?!?

So I picked up my Z like 20 minutes ago. I paid 500 bucks and walked out the door. As I get in my car i get the strong smell of gas, no biggie...although the pristine leather smell will hopefully return. I look and my gas gauge is at slightly below 3/4ths. I go to the nearest gas station and it only takes 2 gallons before I stop trying due to gas shooting out several times. When I get back in the car, there is no difference in the reading of the gas gauge and the dte went up from like 202 to 217. Still broken i guess. Im looking at the receipt right now and it says that the shutter valve and o ring were replaced. Shouldnt they have checked it out to see if it was fixed? Now I have to drop of my ride again, and start over. What a bummer.

Anyone have any ideas or similar experiences?

That is a bummer.

The Z has various fuel issues... did you tell them to fix the TSB or track down the source of the problem and fix it?

...it does sound like the sending unit.

I did mention the TSB several times, but the service guy kept telling me that they have all that information. So they did the TSB work and my receipt said "after diagnosis found the shutter valve not working properly." I'm guessing that they just stated this and didn't actively search out the problem. I'm taking it back tomorrow and I hope they have a sender in stock to fix it. I'm really wondering if I am going to have to drop more money.

When they put it back together the pinched the valve with has the sending unit.

Ask me how I know this. It took me 2 months to get my car fixed with the same problem. I ran out of gas several times it was FN annoying and embarrassing. It was finally resolved when the replaced everything the tanks pump valves...

Finally fixed.

Nissan guys said that the sending unit was blocking the shutter valve. My fuel tank gauge now reads full.

Stoked.

Im wondering, what does the dte usually read on a full tank?

what has worked for me is turning the pump upside down and filling up. It does not happen all the time but when it does it is quite annoying.

Anyone have a copy of the TSB in question? NTB05-048

I've searched the web but can't find any working links to it. Thanks!

Nevermind! Got it!
