Default Blinking Airbag light...

Got a 2003 with a blinking airbag light. Just driving along and it started blinking.

OBDII didn't pick up any engine codes, nor did it clear out the blinking airbag light.

Car has 60k miles.

What do I do... stealership the only option?

Is this common? What federal guidelines are safety equipment covered under? I know emissions are like 85k mile warranty.

The majority of the parts are covered by the powertrain 5yr/60k warranty. If you're out of the warrany you may get lucky and it might be a seatbelt issue. Those are covered for the lifetime of the vehicle. Get it tested to find out.

good luck, ever since I removed my seat to vacuum it really well I've never gotten it to shut off, even after multiple resets, it always comes back. Bad news is the entire air bag system is disabled until you fix whatever is causing the blinking light. My research from Nissan is that 90% of the time its a wiring harnass gone bad. Other items are seat belt pretensioner ($220) or bad SRS module between the seats ($600).

I'm going to put in 2.2k resistors into each yellow harness under the seats and see what happens, if it never comes on I'll know its a wiring harnass in the seats, if it still comes back then I'll break out the lube and take it in (out of warranty).

Keep us posted if you figure it out.

Shop said it was a soft-ware issue and updated it.

I tried the self-test found in the faq. It showed a malfunction, didn't bother to count the bleeps for which other than it wasn't the "refresh" one or whatever.

Its all good now.

Thanks.

My airbag light started blinking Wednesday. I tried the self test but the light never went solid when I turned the key to the "on" position. I took it to the dealership today and they told me the passenger side airbag module was bad so they have to order the part and replace. However they also informed me that it was covered under the original Nissan 5/60,000 power train warranty.

That made me happy.

The light is no longer blinking as well.
