Well upon jacking up my car again to tighten up the bolts on my new exhaust I find a good amount of transmission fluid on my new pipes. Upon inspection my differential bushing is cracked.

After searching for awhile it seems SPL is the only choice for a permanent replacement. Reading into it some more it is noted that a supercharger like whine is a symptom.

Does anyone else have an alternative? Poly? I don't track my car nor run it that hard, every now and then i'll just get on it.

Wow...a lot of shops have never had any experience replacing these things. I just pm'd shariff. Will report back when I receive a response.

 

Ah, I also just changed out both the tranny and diff oil. The transmission received standard 80w and the differential was filled with lucas 90w. The whines were still evident before this anyhow.

I guess what i'm asking is if the whine i'm talking about and the whine associated with the SPL bushing is the same one.

 

just search google for the TSB. I just had my car serviced because of that exact problem for free. All you need to do is let the guys at the dealership hear the noise. I was given a free 2 day car rental while my car was being repaired for free.

 

^I take it you're still under warranty. I'm at 60k miles and i'm an 03.

 

It's the rear axles bearings (or something of the sort) need to be lubed. If it's out of warranty it will cost you. If you track the car replace the wheel bearing while there in there.

As for the bushing, the have to replace the whole rear subframe. more $$$$

The whine you are talking about... when does that happen? how fast are you going? accelerating decelerating?

 

Accelerating only. It happens at low speeds and rpms. I was playing around with it one day. Would get on and off it, it would only make that sound during acceleration then stop when I let off. Goes away eventually.

 

Not good.

 

Well it's no big deal really, i had the same shop look at it and they said they filled up the differential and it leaked at where the small crack was. I'm going to get it replaced soon.

And the axles aren't clicking it's those darn sway bar bushing lube that are drying out because of the crazy cold weather lol. Whew.

 

So what is the fix for this again? How much am i looking at? I have the same exact problem and there seems to be different opinion on here as to what it is. Oh and im also getting that noise from the sway bar bushing. So i guess the problem is just the lube right? Mine only started making noise when it got cold. Heres a pic of mine

 

Push the clutch in...does the whine happen while rolling with the clutch depressed? Does the whine happen only when it's cold? I had that issue and it happend to be the fluid used wasnt rated for the cold weather...now being in FL I don't think nissan expected it to get in the 20's.

 

Got my SPL bushings and NISMO diff cover in. Is there a tutorial available for the install. Want to try to tackle this myself.

 

Going to take it to shariff either today or tomorrow. He said it's possible that the diff cover could've cracked or maybe the previous shop just filled it the diff too much so it's spurging a little. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

 

Yeah, I get a whining noise that I can only describe as the sound of the wind during a hurricane!

For me, it happens at any speed over 20 MPH, while in gear or in coasting in neutral. But it only happens when the engine/tranny is cold (for about 5 minutes, till it warms up with driving) -- and only when it is around 30-45 degrees outside.

I had the trans fluid replaced about 15k miles (12 months) ago, and will probably get it done again. What weight should I try? I'm guessing I should use something other than the standard 80w? Keep in mind that it will eventually get back up to 100+ in a few months!
