Default Tire Roar

I just took my Z in for it's 7500 mile oil change and complained about the tire roar. It has gotten so bad in the last 1,000 miles I almost couldn't hear the radio. My Dealer, Buckeye Nissan immediately told me about the service bulliten, which called to rotate front tires (remove from rim and move) and realign. The front and rear cambers were off by more the 2 degrees, I noticed the decrease in rear noise immediately, will need to let the front tire wear a little and see if they have decreased.

I tried to discuss new tires, but they wouldn't even discuss it. Most of the wear is on the outer edge, and at this point not very bad, just hell of a noise. I've driven trucks with less noise.

You will just have to wait until the other sides of the tires wear down before you can get new tires. This is the standard b.s. plan Nissan has developed as a bandaid for the wear problem.

Yep. Mine are a-ROARIN' big time too. I'm due for the tire swap soon. I have heard that SOME dealers are forgoing this and simply replacing the tires. I think if you argue that it is more of a safety issue than simply a noise issue, they will be more likely to get you new tires.

Mosted this earlier in another post. "Boomer" read, but will post to this "thread":

Current mileage 17,300. Reported noise problem during 11,000 mile service. Nissan Dealer says, "Master Tech. not available, lets look at during 15,000 mile servie". At 15,000 mile service, Nissan master Tech. sees "feathering/cupping" and agrees there is "significant" noise between 30-40 mph, especially when braking. Appointment scheduled to perform TSB on 9/5/2003. Master Tech. on vacation, so rescheduled for 9/9/2003. Results:

1. TSB performed inclucing dismounting tires and rotate.

2. Nissan Tech. advises "Car ready, but you are not going to like! Sounds like you are driving a truck with "Mud" tires".

3. I have filed case with Nissan 1, so called and discussed. She in turn called the dealer.

4. My options were to replace font OEM tires (Potenza) under warranty or buy four (4) ties of my choice and file claim for difference between two (2) OEM's and in my case Michelin Pilot A/S.

5. OEM's will be replace at "No Cost". So, was advised: You know what to look for and know what to listen for. Keep replacing the OEM tires under warranty until rears need replacing. Then replace all four (4) with tires of my choice and file claim for diffeence.

6. OEM front tires on order.

PS: I am sure Bonz and others will confirm, "tire warranty" is 12,000 miles. I have an excellent dealer/service department. File a complaint with 800-Nissan1 and keep changing tires. There is nothing common between dealers in how they deal with this issue.

Well, Nissan replaced all 4 tires, boy it is sure quiet now. My dealer was very good about the whole thing. I didn't even have ti push for the rear tires.

Now I only hope that the next 12,000 miles don't require another set.
