Default AT Shifter ****

I want to change out my AT shifter ****...I have only seen one or two threads on the subject...thought I would seek more.

Is it true that the OEM shifter **** just threads off? Left I presume? How about the piece that goes down to the top of the boot, does that come with it? Will I be able to nicely adapt another shifter ****? Could I damage the linkage? I've heard that I should wrap a rag around it and use channel locks, should I have it in gear or stabilize the linkage somehow?

I don't want to do any damage...if I could harm anything I would be content with the existing shifter ****.

Thank you in advance...

I have the frost leather interior in mine and replaced mine with the G35 ****. The G35 **** is also covered in frost leather with an aluminum accent strip down the center, looks a lot nicer than the stock black. The **** is not threaded, to remove it you need to carefully pry down the silver plastic cover that is right under the ****. When you have that done you will see a metal pin similar to a large bobbie pin that you need to remove. That is all that holds the **** on. Once you carefully remove this pin you should be able to pull the **** straight up and off. I have not checked out after market ***** so I can't tell you of any other ***** that will fit but at least you now know how to remove it!
You may want to look at some other Nissan and Infiniti models, you may find one of their ***** that will work like the G35.
Good luck.
