Mine does it too. Not all the time but it does it. Mostly when I am stopped at a light is when it happens. I have read that others have the same issue. I am thinking of having the dealer look into it.

Some might say a grounding kit may aid in alleviating some of that rough idle.

I did a search and can't find much. I see one person said that the dealer raised the idle and that cured it, and another said a bad injector. Most responses say the dealer doesn't know what it is.

you know ... as much as i love my car ... i hate these little PROBLEMS... so there is no fix for the rocky idle... no fix for the notchy gears... no fix for the feathering... no fix for the rattles in the car... argh... if the z didn't look so sexy... i would rather buy a civic argh!

I agree Shift_Speed. I love the car, nothing else compares in my opinion. I wish it didn't have the little problems, the feathering and the idle and high clutch take up.

Yep, same with mine. At idle, the car thumps or shudders slightly. However, I stare at the tach needle and it isn't moving. So, no tach fluctuation, just thumping or slight shuddering. If I hold the revs at, say, 1000, it goes away...

has n e one taken their cars to nissan for this rocky idle... and the slight thumping... i mean if it isn't hurtin the car i guess i can live with it...

btw... today i was driving on a bumpy road... and i had the music off and windows up.... let me tell you how noisy our cabin is.... first the tire makes tremendous noise like its a brass section... then you have the winds section which is the rattling from the front dash and then the percussion would be the seatbelts clanking .... I HAD A FREE TICKET TO A BAND CONERT IN MY CAR...

Both of our cars still do this the 03 Max and the 350 it annoys me but doesnt bother my wife as much, took them both and and they said its normal adn that several 02-04 Max, 3.5 Altima and 350 owners complain about it. When I'm at a light they both idle at 700-750 but they feel rough and especially feel it in the steering wheel a little and at low rpms acellerating they both feel rough some times. this engine is much better than the old 3.0 in power but now where near as good in smoothness or refinment IMO.

My car idles pretty rough too, never had this problem with any car I have owned or rode in. It gets kind of annoying when I'm sitting at a light and my car is shaking so bad because of it

i have the same problem too. i can see my tach needle bounce up and down just a little. happens only at a stand still idle.

i have a grounding kit, so i guess that isn't the solution. i didn't really notice this before the addition of my exhaust. i wonder if there is any connection????

this isn't really a fix, but whenever i'm at a light or going to be at idle for a while, i turn the AC on at the lowest setting. the idle jumps up a bit but stabilizes itself out, and isn't so rough.

i have the rough idle package, and came with free thumping as well at idle! grounding kit did not solve the problem. its bad. you can feel the thump while youre sitting in the car, and open the hood, and bam! you can hear it. took it to the dealer for that and some other minor stuff, and they said they heard nothing!. yeah right. at my next oil change, I'll bring it up again, then it will be documented 2 times already, and i will ask to go for a ride with the tech guy so he can be forced to hear it.

I have the same problem. The RPM needle sits at 500 (seems to be low to me), and the car will stop shaking when I turn on the AC which also brings the RPM to ~750. There are some suggestions on the forum about bumping the idle to around 750.

btw, dealer told me that they did notice the problem, and it's normal. They even asked me what kind of gas I pump

I had the same problem. At 19K I took it to the dealer and they said it was fine. I left there pissed off. I went home and decided to take the air intake hose off and clean the inside of the throttle body and butterfly. A simple lint free cloth and a $2.99 can of STP Throttle Body Cleaner from Autozone. I was amazed at the difference. It still purr's like a kitten 10k later.
