Default 03 5AT transmission problems?

So I've noticed that whenever I floor it, and suddenly let off the gas completely, the rpms will just sit there at lik 4-5k for a little bit, and it will stay in the lower gear for a second or two before shifting higher Is this a design feature? It sounds weird.

Also another issue I noticed today is when I was driving at about 43mph, and suddenly depressed the gas peddle about midway, there was no power for a second or two, then it suddenly kicked in. Like it lagged or something. anyone know anything?

I think it is just the way the auto tranny is controlled. When you floor it, it assumes it assumes you are wanting to go fast, so it doesn't shift up. As for the lag, probably an economy feature built in.
