Default Rear Differential Problem

Hey guys quick question,

I'm having a loud clicking noise coming from the car when I take off, random when I'm driving but its pretty loud. I've read about the TSB and I'm going to get that performed here soon.

I had a mechanic that lives next door to me, not familiar with these types of cars really, take a look and he said that its the rear differential?? He said that the bearings on both sides of the diff have play, is this normal? Jeez I hope its not I just bought the car 10 days ago, its an 03 Base with 40,000 miles and looked to be in immaculate shape.

I hope you guys can at least give me a little side of relief. It doesn't affect the way the car drives or anything it just clicks and its annoying.

Also, when I press the brakes sometimes theres a clicking coming from the front. Any ideas what that is? I didn't notice this when I test drove it because windows were up, A/C was on, and the seller was gabbing.

Thanks for any replies,
Justin

Rear axle clicking is a popular subject. No need for another clicking thread.

The question really is, can there be play in the bearings on both sides of the diff? and what could cause a click from pressing the brakes? and lastly, is there a possibility that the Rear diff would actually go bad like this guy said without it affecting the drivability of the car?

Default I would do a search on " clicking " here

I have the same issues. Launching and left turns. There is a load of info on the subject to what it is and how to fix it....you can also go to
www.350motoring.com They also have many threads on this issue. Good luck.

think 2 gears / splines meshing together with forwards and backwards force being applied, and youll understand what the sound is

Read the service bulletin. Very informative.
