Default Advise on Air Conditioning problem

My A/C isn't cooling the cabin enough (suddenly). I went to top up the gas but it is still the same. Went to an a/c specialise and he said the compressor is dying. I don't mind spending the $ to replace it but he said the replacement requires removing the dashboard.... I really like to avoid that if possible, and I don't really trust him.

I have some work done in the engine bay recently where engine was slightly lifted, the problem came a few days right after I collected my car. Could it be other simple problem like fuse, leak, connector, cable not connected correctly?

Like to do some simple check before I send it for repair in the workshop.

Any advise would be great.

The compressor is behind the dash? I didn’t know that.
