Question Any Problems with the rear hatch?

The rear hatch doesn't completely open when I release it. If I lift up on the hatch while I'm pushing the release button, it will open on the first time. If not, I need to push the release mutliple times. It doesn't make a difference if I use the hidden release or the key. Any thing I can do myself? Not looking for more blunders from the dealer.

The same thing is happening to me too now. I'm going to try a new dealer to look at it.

There are 2 ways to fix it.

First, try adding grease to the hatch release. you might need to remove the back trunk panel first to get to it.

The other way is to remove the weight in the Hatch. Do a search, alot of people removed it when adding a spoiler to make the hatch lighter so that it will open when trunk release is pressed.

The second should definitly solve your problem, but try the first one. Its easier to do than the second.

Mine still does that occasionally. I took the weight out but the weight of my NISMO spoiler still causes it to occur. You just need to use two hands. You hit the button with one while lifting up with the other.

Thanks for the responses. It's nice to know that this might have a simple fix. I don't mind using two hands to open it. Maybe I should look at it as a anti-theft feature.

By the way, Dr Bonz, thanks for getting me hooked on Zaino. I needed a new obsession. Eleven coats in 1900 miles. Best therapy I ever had.

thanks for the info. My car has been doing this since day one. Dealer said it was due to the cold weather and because of the properties of rubber expanding and contracting there is nothing they can do. i will try one of t he above mentioned fixes.

mine does that once in a while. So now I just hit the trunk release twice on the remote.

Unhappy RE: rear hatch

Same problem occuring on my vehicle. initially it opened with 1 press of the release on the trunk or remote. It now requires the release to be hit twice to open. I feel the situation will continue to deteriorate and a defect should be acknowledge and fixed by Nissan.

Well 2 suggestion was posted here already. If you feel that it'll continue to deteriorate to the point that it won't open then you should try one of the solution or get your dealer to fix it while its still covered by warranty.

As for the weight in the hatch. I think the post was deleted since it was almost a year old. But if you just pull the panel off the hatch (seems to be only held by clips) you'll see the weights. Just unscrew the bolt you should be able to remove the weights with no problems.

Me too. Tack this problem onto the unbelievably long list of stuff wrong with my car. I'm so done with this piece of garbage. I just hope I will be awarded a buy back so I do not loose my shirt.

Thanks for the info. I will try pulling the panel off to expose the weights and remove them. This is not a huge problem, but along with ADOOZIE, I am in the same boat regarding a buy back from Nissan. Just something else on my list of BROKE STUFF!

Mine has been doing it since day one, but only when it's 55 degrees or cooler. I did look into removing the weight, but didn't want to pursue it too much since I feared breaking the clips of the plastic cover in the rear. Where are they exactly? I imagine they're towards the rear corners of the rear hatch...

I started to notice it more and more as the weather gets cooler. Haven't taken it into the dealer yet for this issue. Also, I notice the strut doesn't seem to expand fully either as it goes up....

I noticed that mine doesnt want to open on the first click when its cold. After it heats up out side, there doesnt seem to be a problem any more. I think i'll just live with it this winter, and if it happens after it gets warm i'll look into it some more.

The rear hatch shocks are simply underpowered. Since they're gas pressure shocks, when it's cold, the gases contract and don't expand as much as if it was warm. Nissan should come out with a standard fix for this...
