Buzzing Noise, Bad Fuel pump?
Hi All,
I have a buzzing noise (sometimes intermittent) coming from the rear hatch when the car is idling. I could really hear it when I put my ears next to the rear wheel wells and/or inside the hatch compartment near the strut bar. I am guessing that the noise is coming from the fuel tank perhaps the fuel pump or the pressure regulator. I removed everything in the hatch area and located the noise to be coming from underneath the car.
Could some one verify that this noise is normal? I really don't want to waste another Saturday at the dealership, just like last week for some warranty services ( 5.5 hrs). BTW, I only have 4000 miles.
Thanks

I don't think it's the tires because the pressure readings are all okay. It's definitely coming from under the car where the fuel tank is located. It's not the differential b/c I was not moving. The car was at idling. If you also hear the sound then perhaps, I will just cancel my appt. with the dealer. BTW, I am not really happy with Nissan's service so far.
Thanks for your inputs... Anybody else?

My future cousin-in-law (works at a BMW dealership) said that the internal fuel pumps on some BMW's made the buzzing noise and are promptly replaced under warranty (the entire tank and assembly). About five or so hours worth of work. Wish that Nissan had such levels of service. In any case, if my safety is ensured then I guess I can live with it.
This past Saturday I went to the dealership and had them start up two other 350Z, a Track and Touring model. Both did not exhibit any of the buzzing noise. I should have left my car there to let them fix it but I did not want to waste a perfectly good Sat. waiting at the dealership. So I left. While I was driving home I noticed the noise was getting louder.
I don't know what to think of this anymore? Should I drive it anymore? Is it safe? Wouldnt the ECU detect the problem if the fuel pump/regulator is faulty?

Funny thing this came up because I have the same buzzing/humming noise coming from my rear hatch area at idle. It just started last week. I am under the impression it is the fuel pump, but I really have no idea. I just don't want it to get louder. I have 27k miles on the car.
They said that they will look at the problem. I just didn't want to waste my Saturday there. The noise was not as loud at then so I left. It just so happened that the noise got a lot louder when I got home. I can now hear it over the radio at moderate volume. Now I am worried. I am going to make an appt. with them tomorrow.
I really don't have time for this S**T. This will be my 3 rd time at the dealership and wasted almost 10 hours of my valuble time ($265/hr). I want to sell my car so I don't have to deal with Nissan's service dept again. I want know how what kind of quality control if any, was in place when new cars are being sold with grease marks on both side windows. This is unacceptable IMO. BTW I only have 4000 miles after owning the car for a little bit over a year. I will lose like 7 grand if I sell it right now.
Sorry about the ranting.

But I think he means that he's a consultant. I get billed at $200/hr but I only see 20% of that.
I have the fuel pump noise in my car, and can also hear it over low music (04 enthusiast). Outside the car, by the rear wheels, it sounds like intermittent hissing from air being let out of tires (though this is obviously not the case, it just sounds similar). I have to assume this is normal.
It comes and goes... this morning, nothing. Day before yesterday, nothing. Some days... BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ...
So forget about duplicating the problem (in my case). I don't think that problems like this just fix themselves, but one can always hope.
