Default 2003 problems

I have a 2003 z with 94k miles and I just got the car and I am already having problems with it. The other day it sputtered in third gear and shut off while moving and the check engine light came on. The car fired right back up and drove fine the rest of the way home. I took it in the next day. The dealer told me that the cam/crank sensors are bad, so they took it all apart to install them and they tell me that my car has the new harness for the sensors so they had the wrong ones... They put it back together and told me to drive it and come back next week. I went back there today to get it fixed and when I get it there they tell me that the code was gone and it is fine and didnt need the sensors. I drove the car for about 100 miles and it was fine and when I was about done driving it died on me at a light and would not start back up. I tried about 10 times it would fire then die about 10 times and it finally started and I got it home. What do you think is the problem!!!???? I NEED SOME HELP.

i had the same problem! i picked mine up and the day after it did the exact thing. they picked it up, put new sensors in and it, and it was fixed. make them put in new sensors! after that issue my water pump, thermostat, and radiator all went out at once. i recommend them at least checking those too. since then i've driven a couple hundred miles and nothing has happened. i'm no professional like some of the fellas on here, but i figured i'd give you my two cents. good luck man. hope this helps!

Sounds like intermittent cam/ or crank sensor went bad. I bet when the car cools down it will start fine. Till it gets hot and the sensor will fail again.

thank you for the input. You still think it is the cam sensors even if it isnt throwing the code for them anymore but still having the same symptoms?

I would bet the sensor is "dying" It happens. Sometimes slowly, when will it fully die? Who knows?

Little story. I had a 99 eclipse which when the same thing happened the car would start and drive fine. Once the car was warm and shut off the car would not start again until it cooled back down. It was the cam sensor. Could be a similair issue, or maybe the plug came lose and now it was plugged back in properly.
