Hey everyone,

I've done a bit of searching, and I may have found the answer...

My car has the intermittent starting problem, where the car will crank, but not turn over. This has been more frequent as of late. Sometimes, it takes upto 10 cranks to turn, after removing the key and what not.

If I take the key out, and tap it a few times, it starts during the first or second crank. Is it possible that the transponder inside the key is loose or faulty? I don't have a second key to test this theory.

What I can't understand about the above is that a few members have stated that they can tape the key to the bottom of the steering column, and start the car without a transponder key. This then goes against my solution as it appears that the transponder just needs to be in the same proximity as the ignition.

The fuel pump turns on every single time. The security light does stay solid red when the car doesn't start, and it turns off when it starts.

Your thoughts and comments are appreciated.

 

milage on the car? manual or auto? any recent mods or work done to the car? any codes in the system? (doesnt necessarily mean a check engine light) when did this start happening, lol sorry for so many questions but answering them will help in diag

 

41k miles on the car, auto, no mods at all, and not sure of any codes. Started to occur 3 weeks ago, and it's happening more often as of late.

Get battery tested perhaps. If it's not the battery it could be any number of things, but the battery would be the easiest to check first.

Failed to mention that the battery was replaced 3 months ago... I'll get it checked anyways...
