Question ambient air temp sensor ???

I noticed this thing hanging in the front end by the horns. From what I gathered, it is the ambient air temp sensor.

Can someone confirm? Also, it appears to be broken, at least externally. Anybody have a pic of how / where it is supposed to be mounted/installed?

Also, I have been having an intermittent problem with my AC turning ON, even though the AC **** is in the OFF position. Could this sensor, and the fact that it seems to be dangling around be the cause of this problem? Thanks.

Thats definitely the air temp sensor and there is a small metal bracket that it attaches to. Was the car hit in the front at some point?

Thanks. I'm guessing this was damaged when I had my bumper filled/resprayed last year. I think I see where it's supposed to be attached.

Any Idea if this thing cuases the AC to flake out / turn-on all of the sudden, even though it's set to OFF?
