Unhappy Squeaking Engine Belts Problem!

Hi,

I have a 2003 Z and have recently been having this problem with my engine belts where they make an annoying squeaking noise.. I'm not sure exactly what belt it is, but I know its one of those exposed ones at the front of the engine. I figured it was a belt problem because the squeaking got faster when the RPMs went up. On idle, it was very feint, but when accelerating it got very very loud to the point where people on the sidewalk were looking over (I don't aftermarket exhaust so it wasn't because of that :P). It was almost like the engine was chriping.. It was very very annoying. So I went to Canadian Tire and got myself some belt dressing and sprayed it all over the front belts with the car running to lubricate it and remove any potential dirt. And sure enough it worked! The noise completely went away. Then this morning when I fired her up, the squeaking was back! So I once again, sprayed the belt dressing all over the belts, and now its perfect again. But I'm pretty sure the noise will be back tomorrow.

Have any of you experienced something like this before? Could it be that I need a new belt? Or possibly something wrong with my pulleys? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Here is a picture of the belts I lubricated just to clarify: (this is not my engine -- if it was I probably wouldn't be having this problem lol.)

Thanks!

Just look up "belt tighten procedure" or something and you'll get a result. It's pretty easy. I think there's a DIY on replacing them in that section.

They are either worn too badly or loose.

dressing is a sticky spray, not a lubricant.

Time for new belts.

Sounds like your idler pulleys are worn...

Yeah the belt dressing said it fixed squeaks.. which it did.. until the solvent dried.. then the next day its just back to squeaky again.

Anyway, anyone know how much it will run me to get the belts replaced? Seems like it wouldn't be too much as its in the exposed part of the engine so I cant see labor being more than an hour.. but I have no clue.

it's not really a time consuming job. i would probably pay a reliable Z-knowledgeable shop like 60 bucks?
