My car had the same rattle for about a month, then I never heard it again. I know it was that spot because I could touch it, and it would stop.

That is a common problem, I have read several posts on here with people saying the same thing.

Question Dash Rattle

I am having a problem with a rattle in my dash. I am 99.9% sure that the rattle is coming from the security light behind the gauges (a design flaw if you ask me... two flat pieces lying horizontally?! on a CAR?!). At first it was annoying, but now it's driving me insane!

I have seen other people complain about this problem on the site, but haven't seen any solutions. If you have had this problem what did you do? Does the piece pop out easily with a small flathead screwdriver (or perhaps two screwdrivers). If so, I could probably place a piece of foam in and snap the piece back into place.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Make sure its not your rear view mirror. It can develop a rattle that sounds like its from the dash. Try pressing on the mirror when you hear the rattle..

Nope, it's definitely the security light. I can put my finger on it and it stops instantly.

There is just a little bit of wiggle room between the two pieces.

Question Annoying rattle in the security light/temp sensor in dashboard

I have an irritating rattle in the dashboard, near the defrost. I actually have traced it to the little security light circle thing — and I have no idea what I can do. I've done searches, looked in the 350Z service manual and everything, and I have no idea how to remove this piece or tighten it or what. I can just tap the circle and recreate the buzz/rattle, but it's really hard to work with or pry open because the glass is so close and your knuckles bump against the windshield. Any advice?

Are you sure it isnt the defrost vent? If you tap on the plastic piece between the 2 vents (dead center) youll notice theres some play there. I stuffed some black foam up against the windshield and it took care of the issue, even though it looks kinda ghetto.

Yeah, I just checked and the rattle isn't coming from anywhere else on the vent. Wish there was a way to tighten or re-mount that circular cap because that's where the rattle is coming from. Car is a 2005.

Pop it out with a flat head screw driver and add whatever material of choice to stop the rattle...

I'll try. I didn't know if it was screwed in from below/fastened any way. It just pops out?

I woudn't try this, try to use the tape instead

I only made it worse by trying to pop it out but somehow over the years this stopped being a problem
