Default Radiator leak

I'm wondering if this is a common problem - my radiator fluid overflow tank is low, and there are signs of dried leakage from the radiator cap on the driver's side. I know from others that a leaking cap usually does not mean the cap is just leaking, so my question is has this happened to you, and what was the cause?

Any signs its puking out of the overflow as well? When you remove the cap, where is the coolant level in the radiator itself?
