Default Fan Failure

Had an overheat one day and thought was thermostat...come to find out...

my fans are not kicking on when AC is turned on...

AC runs then car starts overheating if sitting idle or stop and go traffic...

is there anything else I may check in the fan system, before changing the fans...

such as relay, connections, or something else...

04 350zr 67,000 miles

The only thing I havent verified is if my car is within the 84 month range
for the extended warranty to have Nissan fix it the known fan issue for my
year model car, but Im gonna guess its passed by now and just DIY it.

So any suggestions on other things to check before replacing the whole fan system
would be appreciated so I dont have to replace the fans for some other reason I may be missing.

I had a fan failure earlier this year and replaced it fairly easily.

Do a simple test to find out if your fan assembly is really dead. Access the leads to the fans and apply 12v to them to see if they come on. Each fan has its own lead.

Additionally, I hooked up my meter to the leads coming from the car to one of the fans to check for power when the AC was turned on and the other to check for power when the engine was warmed up. This will rule out any deeper electrical problems and will point directly to a fan replacement.

Here's a good thread about the replacement:

And here's the kind of fan I replaced mine with for about $130:

If you have plans for mods down the road, now's a good time to upgrade to one of the more stout fan/shroud combos.

Thanks Jtbinvalrico,

Palm Harbor/Clearwater area here, good advice thanks will do.

And thanks for the links I'll check them out, along with the FSM

hopefully goes easy.

Just got new slicone hoses so I'll kill 2 birds

with one stone. Actually 3 with the oil change too lol.

Yes on mods later so yeah a better fan shroud combo sounds like a good idea
since I'm changing it anyways.

Once again thanks for the help!!!

Check with a dealer. Nissan issued an extended warranty on fans a few years back. i recall it was for the 04 models.

Just checked with the dealership and my extension expired February of 2011.

So just gonna have to diy it with the mishimoto fan assembly.
I've seen some people having issues with the wiring of these fans from mishimoto.
Does anyone know where I can find a wiring diagram for these fans so I
can get this install right the 1st time, rather that having to troubleshoot it after the install.
